Journal of Democracy: China at the Tipping Point?
"The consensus is stronger than at any time since the 1989 Tiananmen crisis that the resilience of the authoritarian regime in the People's Republic of China (PRC) is approaching its limits," writes Columbia University political scientist Andrew J. Nathan in the January 2013 issue of the Journal of Democracy (JoD). What remains unclear, however, is when the breakthrough moment will come and what will be its trigger. more

NED will host Andrew Nathan on Feb. 7 for a special event on "China at the Tipping Point?" He will be joined by Louisa Greve (Vice President, NED) and Maochun Yu (US Naval Academy) to discuss whether the evidence points to a coming period of significant political change in the PRC. more
