Rethinking Zimbabwe

H.E. Arthur Mutambara and Dr. Reuben Brigety II  A July 10 meeting at NED on "Rethinking Zimbabwe" brought together members of all three political parties in Zimbabwe's Government of National Unity (GNU), which is overseeing the constitutional reform process, together with members of civil society to discuss the country's developing political situation.

 

"The more dialogue among Zimbabweans, the better chance good ideas will emerge and find a consensus," said Dave Peterson, Senior Director for Africa. more

NED President Carl Gershman asks, "Who killed Cuban dissident Oswaldo Payá?" in The Washington Postmore

 

The world was shocked to learn of the death of Cuban democracy advocate Oswaldo Payá, who died in a deeply suspicious car accident in Cuba on July 22. Payá was the founder of the Christian Liberation Movement and organizer of the Varela Project, a citizen petition movement for greater rights guarantees in Cuba, which led to a brutal crackdown on democracy activists in 2003. read NED's statement
