NED President Carl Gershman Honored by South Korean Government

On Feb. 7, the South Korean government presented NED President Carl Gershman with the Order of Diplomatic Service ‘Heungin’ Medal in recognition of his work for North Korean human rights. The ceremony took place at the South Korean Embassy in Washington, DC, and was presided over by Ambassador Han Duk-soo (pictured here with Gershman, right). The medal, which had been conferred in Dec. 2011, was the result of recommendations from 12 South Korean human rights groups, including grantees Citizen’s Alliance for North Korean Human Rights and NKnet.

Gershman was subsequently honored by grantees during a visit to South Korea.
