Multiregional American Center for International Labor Solidarity $251,765 To support a subgrant to the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions to increase knowledge among worker and allied organizations, international organizations, and governments about the International Labor Organization Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work; and to foster coordination among national trade union centers in developed and developing countries. American Center for International Labor Solidarity $127,917 To build upon previous work in Mexico and Sri Lanka to heighten awareness of worker rights at the national level. ACILS will develop comprehensive countrywide reports on violations of worker rights and will distribute this information to partners in the labor and NGO world as well as to government officials and international human rights bodies. American Center for International Labor Solidarity $270,951 To expand the quality and quantity of labor market data and analyses available to trade union and other policy centers through its Global Policy Network (GPN). ACILS will identify GPN correspondents, conduct a regional workshop for correspondents in South and East Asia, provide technical assistance in data collection and analysis, assemble a preliminary privatization report, and hold an international meeting of the GPN. American Center for International Labor Solidarity $100,000 To explore and devise new strategies to strengthen worker participation in democratic processes, especially in regions where democracy and democratic trade unionism are threatened by terrorism. In general, program development funds will be used to support research, assessment, and analysis missions to the field as well as longer-term project development activities. American Center for International Labor Solidarity $224,997 To continue supporting Indonesian, South African, and Brazilian trade unions and labor-allied groups that are engaged in the development and implementation of easy-to-understand, gender-inclusive, economic education modules on policy and institutional issues relevant to workers. ACILS will also expand the project into Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, and Argentina. Center for International Private Enterprise $147,706 To support Transparency International (TI) and Social Accountability International (SAI) in designing a corruption-management system called the "Business Principles for Countering Bribery." TI and SAI will implement a consultation exercise and hold a series of workshops to build alliances with international financial institutions, government regulators, and other entities that support corporate social responsibility. Center for International Private Enterprise $107,504 To support Transparency International (TI) and Social Accountability International (SAI) in continuing the strategic rollout of their "Business Principles for Countering Bribery." TI and SAI will refine their supplementary best-practices document to expose and forestall possibilities for bribery within companies and will provide guidance and support to committed companies. Center for International Private Enterprise $170,889 To continue to maintain, update, and expand the wealth of information made available on the Web through its Forum on Economic Freedom site, and to build the infrastructure needed to make the site more accessible and user-friendly and increase its impact. Center for International Private Enterprise $199,564 To support continuous development and testing of new projects based on its past experiences. CIPE will conduct onsite analyses of country conditions, assess the status and needs of potential partner organizations, and develop new programmatic approaches for future NED-funded projects. Center for Sustainable Human Rights Action $45,000 To support activities related to the further development of its Institution Building Handbook Series. The Center will continue its training program for human rights groups in Central America, cultivate a similar pilot program in West Africa, and provide individual human rights training sessions. International Republican Institute $100,000 To carry out on-site political assessments in countries where IRI has no current programs and in countries where additional programming opportunities are possible. Endowment funding will also enable IRI staff to remain up-to-date on relevant political developments worldwide. National Democratic Institute for International Affairs $181,294 To research the political and cultural environments of given regions, assessing needs and identifying appropriate local partners for effective programs; to maintain communications with democratic activists in countries where programs are not currently ongoing; and to develop follow-on programs in countries where NDI has worked previously. National Democratic Institute for International Affairs $151,475 To develop a formal training and consultation program to work with Northern Ireland's political parties in the areas of party growth and development, and campaign, electoral, and communication skills. National Democratic Institute for International Affairs $58,239 To support the Community of Democracies Non-Governmental Forum in Seoul by organizing a panel entitled "Strengthening Political Party Systems" in conjunction with the International Republican Institute. The panel will produce specific recommendations for strengthening political party systems worldwide. National Democratic Institute for International Affairs $37,163 To work with the Global Programme for Legislative Strengthening, a project of the United Nation's Development Program (UNDP), to host and facilitate an Internet-based policy dialogue on emerging trends in legislative-strengthening programs. NDI will create a detailed presentation for participants of a November 2002 UNDP conference on the same topic, as well as a CD-ROM incorporating related materials. Women's Learning Partnership $60,635 To support travel costs for participants in the first of five Regional Roaming Institute (RRI) training-of-trainer sessions in Amman, Jordan. RRI is a capacity-building multimedia institution. The training sessions will equip local facilitators to more effectively empower participants in their own local workshops to take leadership roles within their communities. Women's Learning Partnership $165,000 To create multimedia, culture-specific education tools for individuals and organizations in the Global South that will strengthen women's participation in building civil society. WLP will implement leadership-training programs for women and girls in twelve Muslim-majority countries and will collaborate with partner organizations to develop culture-specific training materials in ten languages.
