Multiregional American Center for International Labor Solidarity $177,763 To review and revise its economic literacy program in Sri Lanka, Indonesia, and Pakistan. ACILS will help educators better train workers to engage in economic policy issues through workshops and the development of economic policy advocacy training modules. American Center for International Labor Solidarity $151,999 To organize an international seminar that develops the technical capacity of union leaders and staff to investigate and analyze the role of private corporations in the economic development of their countries, and to develop realistic policies and action plans. The participants will conduct in-country training of local union activists to support the national leaders with investigations and analysis. American Center for International Labor Solidarity $199,999 To implement Phase III of its Worker and Human Rights Partnership program to continue to produce thorough country reports on worker rights. ACILS plans to work in Jordan, Namibia and Pakistan, building capacity, creating new networks, producing new reports, and developing new country assessment criteria. American Center for International Labor Solidarity $173,946 To work with Labor Rights Now (LRN) to build relationships to increase the program’s capacity to monitor and research violations of internationally-recognized labor rights in China, Burma, and Colombia. LRN will also work to raise awareness of, and spur opposition to, labor rights violations in those countries. Center for International Private Enterprise $64,368 To co-sponsor with Transparent Agents and Contracting Entities (TRACE) five anticorruption workshops lasting from one to five days each. These seminars will be hosted with local business associations committed to increasing transparency in their communities. Center for International Private Enterprise $219,235 To improve its Forum on Economic Freedom with a new electronic-announcement service to upgrade e-mail list management and a simplified conference-management system. Webpages in Chinese and Spanish will be created or enhanced, and increased technical support will be provided for the Virtual Business Association and CIPE’s Russian, Arabic, and Romanian-language websites. Center for International Private Enterprise $107,947 To create a policy guidebook that breaks down democratic governance into a set of key institutions and essential policy practices and publish excerpts through CIPE’s Economic Reform Feature Service. This project will also include training on democratic governance for think tanks and a workshop on “Democracy, Governance, and the Market” at the World Movement for Democracy’s Third Global Assembly. Center for International Private Enterprise $63,965 To hold a workshop and host a booth at the International Chamber of Commerce’s World Chambers Congress in Quebec in September 2003. Through its participation, CIPE will work to raise awareness about and bolster the role that the private sector and chambers of commerce can play in combating corruption and promoting corporate governance. National Democratic Institute for International Affairs $83,625 To present two panels at the World Movement for Democracy’s Third Assembly to address the role political parties can play in combating corruption in politics and encouraging women’s participation in the political process. NDI will also present a panel entitled “Supporting Political Parties in Closed Societies” at the Fifth International Conference of New and Restored Democracies in Ulaanbaatar. National Democratic Institute for International Affairs $62,010 To implement a program to enhance the communication, electoral, and organizing capabilities of political parties in Northern Ireland in anticipation of Assembly elections in 2003. NDI’s program will focus on individual political party research and strategy; party growth and development; and campaign, electoral, and communication skills. National Democratic Institute for International Affairs $31,213 To establish a global working group on women’s political participation consisting of approximately ten high-level political officials from throughout the world, and convene by late fall 2003 to share lessons learned and develop an action agenda for party reform. NDI will assist the working group in disseminating an action agenda. Women’s Learning Partnership for Rights, Development and Peace $395,255* To continue the final phase of a three-phase project to strengthen women’s leadership capacity by creating multimedia, culture-specific educational tools for individuals and organizations that will cultivate and strengthen women’s participation and leadership in building civil society.
