ACILS, working with the United Auto Workers and the International Metalworkers' Federation, will organize trainings for labor leaders, sub-regional conferences on best practices, capacity-building programs, and multi-stakeholder initiatives.

ACILS will conduct a workshop for trade union leaders and activists at the World Movement for Democracy's (WMD's) Fourth Assembly in Turkey. The workshop will highlight how government and civil society organizations can protect democratic institutions and promote the economic, social, and political well-being of workers.

To promote worker understanding of economic policies and their impact on workers. ACILS will develop a best practices manual on economic literacy that will cover nine countries over four continents. The manual will serve as the main tool for the development of an economic literacy program in Algeria. ACILS will also continue to work with union leaders and trainers to promote economic literacy in Thailand.

ACILS will assist the Thai labor movement to establish a worker rights monitoring network by organizing training sessions on worker rights; developing a database of information on workers' rights compliance; providing advocacy training for union leaders; and working with participating unions on the release of a year-end report.

CIPE will organize a workshop at WMD's Fourth Assembly focusing on issues of anti-corruption and its impact on democratic development and stability. CIPE will also organize a strategy session that will follow up on the themes of the WMD conference, as well as a series of anti-corruption roundtable discussions with NGOs and private sector representatives.

CIPE will work in partnership with leading professors, chancellors, and education ministries, to coordinate a pilot course that can be introduced online and as part of university curricula. CIPE will create an online discussion forum, initiate an essay competition, conduct business and economics training for young people, implement an exchange program, and organize a series of roundtable discussions between young leaders.

CIPE will work with Social Accountability International both to capture the success and promote the implementation of SA8000, a standard for the equitable treatment of workers based on international workplace norms. Case studies will be conducted in China, India, and Pakistan to examine how businesses have operated under the SA8000, and will serve as a complementary tool for CIPE's projects aimed at promoting corporate social responsibility.

To build the capacity of the World Youth Movement for Democracy and promote information sharing. GYAN will construct a system of regional coordination, compose guidelines for new members, develop and maintain the Youth Movement's website, issue an electronic newsletter, and organize a "Global Youth Campaign for Democracy."

International Coalition of Historic Site Museums of Conscience

To expand the regional network and build the capacity of Sites of Conscience in Asia, South America, Africa, and Russia. The Sites of Conscience will foster dialogue on pressing contemporary issues by drawing connections between the history of an important site and its contemporary implications on democracy. The Coalition will help new member sites develop capacity to foster democratic values and public engagement.

To provide training in economic governance for future leaders of developing democracies. IRI will identify emerging leaders in four different countries and provide them with the opportunity to participate in an exchange in which they would be able to engage in dialogue with successful veteran leaders of democratic transitions about their experiences in political and economic transitions. Participants will also receive training on economic management.

To expand the membership and increase the visibility of the Women's Democracy Network (WDN) worldwide. IRI will establish local partnerships; launch the WDN website and electronic newsletter; and conduct regional trainings on women's political and civic participation.

To assist human rights groups to more effectively educate and inform policymakers on human rights issues. Activities will include raising awareness of the problems faced by ethnic and religious minorities in Vietnam; civic education and advocacy training for Egyptian women's rights and civil society activists; and empowerment training for Iraqi and Afghan women.

Participants will have the opportunity to meet academics, civil society representatives, and other practitioners. NDI will also organize a workshop and plenary session to foster dialogue about the relationship between political parties and Islam, as well as address strategies for information sharing and networking.

NDI will support the work of an interparliamentary organization to develop and publish a minimum democratic standards document in order to strengthen legislatures worldwide. NDI will produce a practical guide for nonpartisan election monitors and political competitors. The guide will outline the various applications of electronic technologies in the elections process, the critical points where transparency is needed to verify the integrity of the technologies, and the common techniques for verifying their integrity.

Women's Learning Partnership for Rights, Development and Peace (WLP)

To address obstacles to women's empowerment and participation in predominantly Muslim countries. WLP will continue to strengthen women's leadership capacity in selected countries in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. Activities will include the publication of innovative training materials; organization of extensive leadership training programs for women and girls; and advocacy and networking to promote women's rights and participation.
