European Movement in Serbia (EMinS)

EMinS will organize two regional seminars that will provide 60 young political leaders with the opportunity to learn about regional cooperation and open constructive dialogue on key issues across borders.
Freedom House Europe

To promote collaboration between civil society organizations in Kosovo and Serbia and encourage policy reforms advancing cooperation between the two entities. The Budapest-based Freedom House Europe will facilitate joint research by the European Movement in Serbia and Kosovar Institute for Policy Research and Development, resulting in three policy papers presenting solutions to common transition challenges, and provide advocacy and outreach guidance across borders.

To enhance the ability of prodemocratic political parties to compete effectively in elections, increase the ability of regional political leaders to engage in debate on key policy issues, and develop the capacity of governments to engage in democracy promotion activities in Central and Eastern Europe. IRI’s Bratislava Office will provide training and assistance to political parties, publish resource manuals on political campaigns and elections, and conduct a series of seminars to advance the democracy promotion agenda in Europe.

To improve the skills of Roma political leaders. NDI will continue to assist the graduates of previous training programs in Bulgaria, Romania, and Slovakia, while providing basic skills training to emerging Roma leaders in Romania and Serbia. NDI will also provide governance training to Roma local councilors in Bulgaria and Slovakia, and partner with political parties and program graduates to prepare Roma candidates for the fall 2007 local elections in Bulgaria.

NDI will conduct single-country trainings and consultations to improve the skills of women politicians, strengthen parliamentary women’s groups, and political party action plans for women. The Prague-based PINF will organize two seven-day visits for a total of 14 journalists and civic activists, which will bring participants to the Czech Republic for study, training, and networking. Czech experts from PINF will also conduct training seminars on NGO management and civic journalism in Transnistria, Vadul lui Vade, and Odessa.
Romanian Academic Society (SAR)

To adapt and transfer the anticorruption and NGO coalition-building skills, models, and best practices of Romanian NGOs to their counterparts in Southeast European countries. SAR will assist the Partnership for Social Development in Croatia and the Organization for Democracy, Anticorruption, and Dignity (COHU) in Kosovo in building effective anticorruption coalitions, thus increasing the accountability of elected officials.
Youth Initiative for Human Rights (YIHR)

To strengthen the capacity of local NGOs in the region to develop and implement initiatives for improving interethnic relations and promoting reconciliation. YIHR will award 15 small grants to support projects and local civic initiatives focusing on improving interethnic relations and cooperation, and creating the conditions to establish new links and dialogue between Kosovar and Serbian citizens.
