ACILS will hold forums, democracy workshops, and leadership training sessions to promote the inclusion of gender issues into trade union policies and practices and to promote the participation of women workers.

To lead a coalition of business associations to develop a national business agenda that will identify key problems and find workable solutions. CIPE will support the Ethiopian Chamber of Commerce and the Addis Ababa Chamber of Commerce to discuss new legislation through the development of guides, manuals, and radio programs. With the independent think-tank Ethiopian Economics Association, the chambers will train in advocacy skills and articulate the business position.

Center for International Private Enterprise

To broaden the political debate, create a more informed electorate, and strengthen the democratic transition in Ethiopia. With CIPE support, the Addis Ababa Chamber of Commerce will broadcast business news and information to the business community and the public on government radio. The broadcasts will provide an alternative source of information and perspective on economic issues and existing and proposed rules and regulations that affect business.

Ethiopian Human Rights Council (EHRCO)

To identify potential problems and facilitate smooth national elections in May 2005. EHRCO will organize mock elections in 40 priority areas involving election officials, election monitors, candidates for office, and potential voters. In preparation for mock elections, EHRCO will organize discussion forums and election orientations, and write a report to assess the results and make recommendations.

Peace and Development Committee (PDC)

To disseminate the basic concepts and principles of democracy to people at the grassroots level. PDC will organize and conduct a series of nine training workshops in various woredas in the Amhara administrative region. Each workshop will last for three days and focus on the tenets of democracy, the constitution, multiparty free and fair elections, and civic education.
