To promote a culture of debate and consensus-building around the constitution and to inform policy makers on constitutional development and democracy in other countries. CENCOD will publish and distribute four editions of The Constitution, a journal on democracy, constitutionalism, and demilitarization to be distributed free of charge to government officials, academics, civil society leaders, military officers, and journalists.
Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD)

To improve the capacities of community-based organizations to conduct civic education in northern Nigeria and to advocate for better accountability and transparency in public institutions. CITAD will conduct a baseline survey on civic education programs in Kano and Jigawa states and make a model civic education program. CITAD will produce and distribute a civic education training manual throughout northern Nigeria.
Centre for Law and Social Action (CLASA)

To promote political finance reform in Nigeria. CLASA will organize three workshops for legislative, media, and civil society capacity-building, and will also conduct a media advocacy campaign to generate popular support for institutionalizing fiscal transparency in campaign financing in Nigeria.
Civil Liberties Organization (CLO)

To improve the capacity of grassroots associations and promote popular civic education and participation in Nigeria. The CLO will conduct a program of training, constituency meetings, mass civic education, and information dissemination to reach community-based organizations and local populations.
Constitutional Rights Project (CRP)

To improve the skills and effectiveness of legislative staff in the Nigerian National Assembly. CRP will track the Nigerian budget process and train Assembly staff on formulating a public budget and creating a more transparent budget process. CRP will also expand its resource center for legislative staff, produce a monthly newsletter, Assembly Watch, and publish its weekly "Our Rights" column in the national newspaper, This Day.
Eastern Center for Democratic Advancement (ECDA)

To raise political awareness and institute a culture of democratic values in Anambra State. The ECDA will launch a civic education program for youth and local leaders which will involve workshops on good governance and democratic practices. The ECDA will also supplement the project with a weekly radio program to disseminate their message.
Human Rights Monitor

To deepen the expertise of civil society groups in northern Nigeria and strengthen civil society's response to challenges to democratic consolidation. Activities will include meetings for the Northern Coalition for Constitutionalism and Legislative Advocacy, training workshops on research and advocacy, human rights monitoring and documentation, and publication of a quarterly newsletter, Equal Justice.
HURILAWS

To generate support for judicial transparency and to improve dispensation of justice at election petition tribunals. HURILAWS will conduct a baseline study of the election petition process, organize a study group to review Nigerian electoral laws, hold a one-day consultative workshop and lead an extensive media and advocacy campaign.
Imo Youth Network

To strengthen the capacity of women for human rights, democracy, and peace building and to promote an understanding of socio-economic and political issues in oil-producing communities. Activities will include focus group discussions with youth and women leaders, a training-of-trainers workshop for youth activists on conflict management and leadership skills, and a peace conference.
Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law

To encourage political participation and governmental accountability in the Niger Delta. The Institute will organize town hall meetings in core states of the Niger Delta region, hold roundtable discussions led by Nigerian experts on good governance, lead a training seminar for local journalists, and organize training sessions for local government chairpersons.
League of Democratic Women (LEADS)

To increase the capacity of Nigerians to advocate for their rights and to expose discriminatory practices against women. LEADS will organize a skills training workshop for women from northern Nigeria focusing on capacity building and paralegal training. LEADS will also publish a paralegal reference book, a manual on women's rights under shari'a law, and the magazine Women's Advocate, in English and Hausa.
Liberty Now

To empower local communities to understand and defend their legal rights. Liberty Now will organize a civic education training workshop for local political party officials, youth leaders, and leaders from community-based organizations in Akwa Ibom State, and will also organize a legal rights program to train paralegals. Following the training program, participants will return to their local communities and open paralegal clinics to provide free legal advice and assistance.
Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP)

To work toward preventing political violence in the Niger Delta. MOSOP will work with police and youth to mediate intercommunity conflicts. Activities will include workshops for police officers and meetings with at-risk youth, as well as continued documentation of human rights abuses and dissemination of MOSOP's briefings on political violence, police impunity, and the rule of law.
Women Advocates Research and Documentation Center (WARDC)

To raise public awareness of the prevalence of violence against women in the Niger Delta and to enhance community protection of women against violence and other violations. WARDC will conduct research on violence against women through field research and focus group discussions and publish its findings in a comprehensive report.
Youngstars Foundation

To encourage youth participation. The Foundation will defend freedom of expression among youth in northern Nigeria, strengthen youth communication with government officials, and promote leadership development. Youngstars will hold training sessions for participants who will then work with their local communities on matters of freedom of expression in a democratic environment. Youngstars will also organize internships for young people with government offices and publish a youth handbook on democracy and free expression.
Youth Action Group (YAG)

To create a forum for youth to express their views on governance and their ideas on making positive changes to Nigerian society. YAG will host a live, weekly television call-in program called "Youth Parliament." YAG will organize a Youth Parliament fan club and conduct a retreat for 30 youth to facilitate further discussion and debate issues presented on the TV program.
