Asia Pacific Forum of National Human Rights Institutions

To strengthen the investigation capacities of national human rights institutions in the Asia Pacific region through the provision of intensive, on-site training. The Asia Pacific Forum will hold human rights investigations training workshops for the National Human Rights Commission of Malaysia and will provide the staff with the tools needed to monitor and improve the human rights situations in their country.

Asian Forum for Human Rights and Democracy (Forum-Asia)

To promote the effective implementation of international human rights standards in the Asia region and to empower NGOs by providing a platform for cooperation on rights issues. Forum-Asia will focus on seven areas: supporting human rights defenders; democratization and the rule of law; peace and counter-terrorism measures; globalization and economic, social, and cultural rights; right to development; minority rights; and women's rights and gender issues.

Asian Network for Free and Fair Elections (ANFREL)

To strengthen the capacity of domestic election-monitoring bodies in Asia, and to increase cooperation and regional solidarity among civil society organizations. ANFREL will work closely with domestic election-monitoring groups to plan missions and delegations and will organize workshops on election monitoring, voter education, election systems, and good governance. ANFREL will also conduct conflict-resolution programs in countries torn by violence.

To enhance religious freedom. The Becket Fund will conduct a public awareness campaign to promote the understanding of laws designed to protect freedom of religion.

NDI will organize a regional conference and training session for women from the leading parties in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Mindanao in the Philippines, and will facilitate follow-up trainings in selected countries.

To assess humanitarian needs in Asia in order to initiate a program of long-term engagement in humanitarian and community development issues in targeted areas. The assessment will produce a detailed plan for institutional engagement in humanitarian projects and will produce a report that includes recommendations for a specific course of action.

To promote freedom of expression and improve the professionalism and skills of journalists throughout the region. SEAPA will continue a successful training and internship programs as well as freedom of expression programs for Malaysia, Cambodia, and Burma.
