CDHR will host a series of workshops in Mogadishu and Baidoa on human rights and the rule of law, plan a celebration for International Human Rights Day, publish a series of articles on human rights in the local press, and continue to monitor and report on human rights abuses occurring in Mogadishu.

Center for Peace and Democracy (CPD)

To bring resolution to resource-based conflict in the Somali provinces of Galgaduud and Mudug. CPD will organize negotiations among community human rights activists, delegates from warring sub-clans, and other stakeholders from the regional civil society. CPD will also host a conflict resolution and peace-building training workshop focusing on grassroots strategies for conflict prevention/mediation, human rights promotion, and methods of reporting human rights abuses.

Dr. Ismail Jumale Human Rights Organization (DIJHRO)

To promote human rights over clanism and warlordism. DIJHRO will hold human rights workshops, host public commemorations of International Human Rights Day, and continue its program of human rights investigation, documentation, monitoring, and advocacy in all eight regions of Somalia.

HornAfrik

To initiate dialogue and conflict prevention in Somalia. HornAfrik will conduct four week-long workshops for journalists and civil society organization leaders from four key regions of South and Central Somalia, followed with eight participatory discussion panels in each of the four regions. The panels will result in a series of radio programs that explore the conflict mediation efforts of local civil society organizations and traditional leaders.

Kaalo Relief and Development Organization - Puntland

To monitor human rights conditions and to promote human rights activism in existing human rights networks. Kaalo will use its network of volunteer activists to monitor, investigate, and document human rights abuses in detention facilities and IDP camps. Kaalo will also hold a workshop to present its findings and review the current state of human rights in Puntland.

National Democratic Institute for International Affairs

To enhance the capacity of women in the Somali Transitional Federal Parliament to participate more effectively in political and legislative processes. NDI will convene a legislative skills training seminar for newly appointed Somali women MPs, working with international and regional trainers to build key leadership skills.

National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ)

To strengthen and expand press freedom in Somalia. NUSOJ will conduct a series of workshops and conferences to discuss the role of the media in democratizing Somalia. NUSOJ will continue its journalist training program through the Media Development Center dedicated to improving the professionalism of Somalia's press. NUSOJ will also create an informative website dedicated to press freedom news and reports.

National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ)

To educate and protect Somali journalists. NUSOJ will conduct "Media for Democracy" workshops for 130 journalists on the basics of journalism, professional ethics, collective bargaining skills, diversity and pluralism, and organizational leadership skills. NUSOJ will also monitor and report on violations of press freedom by working closely with regional press freedom protectors trained under last year's Media for Democracy Project.

Radio Banadir

To support an exchange of information and ideas throughout Somali society. Radio Banadir will broadcast radio programs on democracy, human rights, and conflict resolution. By providing a platform for open-minded intellectuals, as well as traditional and religious leaders, Radio Banadir will help change the culture of violence, human rights abuses, and clan-motivated abductions and killings, instead promoting the rule of law and peaceful consensus.

Saacid Voluntary Organization

To raise awareness of democratic principles. Saacid will provide alternative conflict mediation centers that will host community democracy forums to increase grassroots activism in the political process. Topics to be addressed in the community forums include the right to vote, free and fair elections, and accountability of elected leaders. Saacid will also develop alternative, volunteer-run legal mediation centers that will emphasize strategies of negotiation, facilitation, communication, and counseling.

Yamayska Foundation

To promote peace through stakeholder meetings and a media campaign. Yamayska will host several forums for stakeholders in Galkayo to discuss the root causes, and potential resolution of the long-running, clan-based conflict in that region. It will also produce newspaper inserts and radio programs in a peace-building media campaign that will summarize and partially broadcast the forums, as well as clips from community presentations and cultural events.
