To anchor the struggle for democracy in Zimbabwe by promoting the media, economic, and informal sector activities of the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU). ACILS will provide administrative and programmatic support for the Information, Research, and Informal Economy departments of the ZCTU. Training sessions for staff and journalists will strengthen the ZCTU's ability to prepare and deliver an effective and concise message.

Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition

To reduce citizen apathy in Zimbabwe by providing opportunities for public protest and debate. Crisis will implement a mass mobilization program consisting of a series of 24 advertisements promoting human and civil rights, and civic rallies and social gatherings such as soccer games, street performances, and church functions to disseminate information. Crisis will also host two meetings for NGO representatives to increase the level of coordination between civic groups.

International Republican Institute

To encourage democratic organizations to focus on democratic consolidation and issue advocacy. IRI will reopen its office in Johannesburg and host quarterly roundtable discussions between major and minor political parties and civic groups to address issues that have been obstacles in the advancement of democracy in Zimbabwe.

Mass Public Institute (MPOI)

To provide public opinion data on economic conditions to the Zimbabwean public. MPOI will conduct a public opinion survey to determine the attitude of Zimbabweans towards the economic recession and the purported economic "turnaround". It will also attempt to catalogue the survival strategies that have developed during the economic collapse, such as illegal and legal immigration, crime, corruption, prostitution, and child labor.

Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA-ZIM)

To empower and protect independent journalists in Zimbabwe. MISA-ZIM will launch the Voluntary Media Council, which will serve as an independent governing body for journalism activities. MISA-ZIM will host a series of four provincial meetings with the Zimbabwe Union of Journalists to explain the Council's processes, followed by a series of four training workshops that will engage civil society, business, and religious organizations in promoting the Council.

National Constitution Assembly (NCA)

To advocate the need to establish a democratic constitution that will promote a peaceful, prosperous, and united Zimbabwe founded on human dignity and social justice. NCA will conduct civic education workshops to expand citizens' understanding of the link between the constitution, good governance, and human rights in each of the 120 constituencies of Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe Community Development Trust (ZCDT)

To conduct an outreach program that will enable youth to discuss and understand relevant leadership issues. Outreach groups will be formed at ZCDT centers in Harare, Bulawayo, Mutare, Hwange, Masvingo, and Gweru. Each of the six outreach groups will discuss leadership issues such as democracy and good governance, transparency and accountability, gender mainstreaming, sustainable dialogue, conflict management and resolution, lobbying and networking, and shadow reporting.

Zimbabwe Human Rights Association (ZimRights)

To disseminate accurate information to grassroots communities on Zimbabwe's political and economic situation. ZimRights will produce a double-sided news sheet in Zimbabwe's two vernacular languages, Ndebele and Shona, that will provide free alternative information for people throughout the country, especially those who cannot afford to purchase newspapers. A simple English version will also be produced for use in the rural schools.

Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR)

To enhance the capacity of human rights defenders in Zimbabwe to protect themselves from persecution. ZLHR will conduct a pilot Community and Grassroots Leadership Training in the rural areas of Manicaland Province, the only rural district in Zimbabwe whose population has traditionally offered strong support to opposition political parties. ZLHR will expand its Rapid Legal Reaction Unit to take 20 cases of human rights violations to court.
