Syria
In FY 2007, the Endowment made seven grants for democracy-building programs in Syria, totaling $292,800. These grants were in the following fields:
NGO Development and Training
$217,600
To build the capacity of civil society organizations in Syria. Organizations provided training on administrative and project management skills, mentored local organizations on project implementation, developed collective campaigns among diverse groups, and pursued government monitoring.
Human Rights
$75,200
To promote a human rights culture within Syria. Organizations strengthened their human rights monitoring and documentation efforts and reporting through regular reports.
