Azur Développement will organize a series of workshops in Congo-Brazzaville for 30 representatives of member organizations of the Réseau SIDA Afrique and conduct an advocacy campaign that will include biweekly internet discussions and subgrants to local NGOs.

Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE)

To raise awareness among policymakers and business association leaders on the key principles and benefits of successful public-private dialogue. CIPE will organize a two-day roundtable in Kenya, providing a forum for high level public and private sector leaders from four African countries to develop strategies for stronger public-private dialogue. Following the event, CIPE will offer two competitive subgrants to enhance private sector advocacy at the national and provincial levels.

To encourage private sector organizations to share experiences and coordinate efforts in order to lead their countries toward greater democratic and economic freedom. CIPE will organize a two-day regional roundtable in Kenya and will develop communications tools for its regional partners to strengthen the network of reform advocates in Africa, improve knowledge-sharing, and enhance the effectiveness of reform strategies.

Foundation for International Dignity (FIND)

To promote respect for human rights in rural communities of the Mano River Union, FIND will launch a campaign on human rights and citizenship in Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Guinea. It will conduct surveys, focus group discussions in English and Krio, training sessions for local community members, and purchase radio spots to broadcast human rights messages. FIND will also continue its legal aid program.

GLOBAL RIGHTS - Partners for Justice

To strengthen the capacity of civil society organizations to defend the rights of marginalized communities that are affected by the exploitation of natural resources. Working with local civil society organizations in Guinea, DRC, and the Republic of Congo, Global Rights will organize a capacity-building workshop on international human rights standards related to economic and social rights. Global Rights will also assist the local groups to document violations of social and economic rights.

National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI)

NDI would build a preliminary level of knowledge of the extractive industry necessary for legislators to begin to provide effective oversight on regional extractive industries and develop country and regional specific recommendations for improved management of the extractive industry in East Africa. In Southern Africa, NDI will work with legislators on the Zambian Estimates Committee to strengthen committee process to better incorporate citizen input on the hearing process and to be more responsive to public demands for accountability over the mining industry.

Reporters Sans Frontières (Reporters Without Borders) (RSF)

To increase public attention on freedom of expression and access to information in Africa. RSF will carry out fact-finding missions to obtain detailed assessments of the situation of local press and propose measures to resolve crises in the media. RSF will also provide financial assistance to journalists and media groups in danger and conduct awareness campaigns about the state of the press.

Sudan Human Rights Association (SHRA)

To advocate for the protection and recognition of the rights of Sudanese refugees, IDPs, and returnees. SHRA will continue to monitor the living conditions of refugees in Uganda and Kenya and become more involved in monitoring the situation of IDPs and returnees in Southern Sudan. SHRA will hold three five-day paralegal training workshops to raise awareness of human rights among refugees, IDPs, and returnee communities.
