Actions pour la Protection des Droits de l'Homme (APDH)

To train students on the protection and promotion of human rights and the use of non-violence. APDH will organize human rights and non-violence trainings at universities in Abidjan and in northern Côte d’Ivoire. Actions pour la Protection des Droits de l'Homme will also provide legal assistance to victims of human rights violations.
Centre Féminin pour la Démocratie et les Droits Humains en Côte D’Ivoire (Women Center for Democracy and Human Rights in Côte d'Ivoire)(CEFCI)

To strengthen the ability of northern-based women’s groups in Côte d’Ivoire to participate in the democratic process. CEFCI will train women’s groups in Odienné and Bouaké on civic education and leadership. CEFCI will also use local community radios to carry its messages in local languages.
Coalition de la Société Civile pour la Paix et le Développement en Côte D'Ivoire (COSOPCI)

To support citizens’ participation in the upcoming 2008 presidential elections and reinforce the internal capacity of northern-based organizations that promote citizenship and good governance. COSOPCI will train women’s groups, youth in political parties, local radios, and traditional and religious leaders on electoral process, citizenship, and local governance. COSOPCI will supplement those trainings with a weekly radio program.
Club Union Africaine Côte d'Ivoire

To reinforce the capacities of northern communities of Haut Sassandra in Daloa, and Savanes in Korhogo, to mitigate local conflicts and encourage the participation of political parties and local civil society organizations in governance, human rights and advocacy. Club Union Africaine Côte d'Ivoire will organize capacity building workshops for local officials and civil society to hone their lobbying and advocacy skills.
Ligue Ivoirenne des Droits de l’Homme (LIDHO)

To raise awareness about human rights issues among rural universities in Côte d’Ivoire. LIDHO will educate students in rural areas on human rights standards and nonviolence through theatre performances. The Ivorian League for Human Rights will use real-life scenarios as a creative tool for students to express their concerns about social, political, and economic problems.
Mouvement Ivoirien des Droits Humains (MIDH)

To improve the fair and humane treatment of detainees and prisoners in Côte d’Ivoire. MIDH will assess prison conditions in Côte d’Ivoire, train prison staff on the rights of detainees, and review legal provisions guiding detention centers. MIDH will lobby local elected officials and the Ministries of Justice and Human Rights and Social Affairs for improvements in prison conditions and humane treatment of detainees.
National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI)

To support Ivorian efforts to hold credible elections through a program that will promote constructive dialogue among Ivorian political actors and enhance the capacity of women and young people to participate in the electoral process. NDI will convene interparty working groups for parties and the election commission in order to exchange information about election-related issues, resolve potential conflicts, support initiatives that foster greater participation by women and young people, and provide training to youth party leaders.
National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI)

To support credible national elections in Cote d’Ivoire by promoting multiparty dialogue and increased political participation among two marginalized groups – women and young people. NDI will organize a high profile signing ceremony of the political party code of conduct and facilitate inter-party dialogue as an antidote to election-related violence. To foster the integration of women and young people in the election process, NDI will facilitate dialogue between party leaders and representatives of youth coalitions, and support a network of women party leaders.
Organisation des Femmes Actives de Côte d'Ivoire (OFACI)

To increase Ivoirians’ awareness of their human rights and of the democratic process. OFACI will conduct a civic education and electoral awareness campaign designed to help Ivoirians acquire the information needed to make constructive and responsible decisions, to become individuals conscious of the realities and problems of their area, and citizens active and determined to promote equality, justice, and democracy by exercising their right to vote.
Regroupement des Acteurs Ivoiriens des Droits Humains (RAIDH)

To reinforce the awareness of youth activists regarding human rights and citizenship, and to reinforce the capacity of NGOs to create a climate of peace during the upcoming electoral process. RAIDH, a network of human rights organizations, will conduct a civic education campaign in the cities of Gagnoa, Bondougou and Korhogo which will promote youth participation in the elections and the need to respect differences.
SOS Exclusion
$27,275
To improve secondary school students’ understanding and support for human rights and democracy and strengthen youth efforts to advocate for peace and non-violent conflict resolution. SOS Exclusion will expand the civic education program on human rights for secondary school students to ten schools in the northern regions of Daloa and Korhogo which were under rebel control during the crisis, and are slowly being reintegrated to the rest of the country.
