Alliance for Peace and Democracy (APeD)

APeD will train and equip a group of master trainers to perform human rights awareness work in local high schools. With support of student activists, APeD will create Peace Clubs on each of the ten local high school campuses.

Bright Africa Youth Association (BAYA)

To sensitize people and policymakers to the difficulties faced by women in Ethiopian society and encourage faster response in the judicial system to protect women and prosecute those who violate women’s rights. BAYA will conduct workshops to sensitize educators and members of the judiciary and military to the perilous situation of women along Ethiopia’s northern border. It will expand its youth information and education centres in the Tigray region of Ethiopia and continue to support area girls and youth clubs.

Canadian Physicians for Aid and Relief- Ethiopia (CPAR-E)

To strengthen peace-building efforts by empowering community leaders with traditional and modern conflict resolution techniques. CPR-E will strengthen the linkages between traditional methods of conflict resolution and the formal legal system, and will convene inter- and intra-ethnic workshop forums that will establish community-based peace committees.

Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE)

To enable the business community to leverage its access to policymakers to demand governance. CIPE will build the capacity of grassroots associations in Ethiopia to participate in public-private dialogue and mobilize broad-based coalitions for reform through intensive training, technical assistance, and competitive sub grants to associations in Oromia and Tigray regions.

Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE)

To enhance the leadership, management, and advocacy skills of senior managers, board members, and staff of business associations in Ethiopia through leadership development programs and technical assistance. CIPE and its partner Initiative Africa will strengthen the financial and organizational sustainability of business associations in Ethiopia and will build their capacity to stimulate entrepreneurship among women and youth people.

Ethiopian Association for Human Rights (EAHUR)

To address a lack of awareness in Addis Ababa high school students about basic human rights principles and values and improve the teaching of human rights in Ethiopian schools. EAHUR will work with high school media clubs and teachers to educate students about the basic principles and legal frameworks of national and international human rights standards.

HUNDEE

To promote practices and collective action that institutionalizes respect and protection of women’s human rights. HUNDEE will conduct a series of activities designed to strengthen new women’s associations modeled on the traditional Siqqee institution. HUNDEE will also link the associations with regional women’s affairs bureaus and establish human rights monitoring groups in 24 localities.

Ketar Development Association (KDA)

To enhance the internal capacity of CBOs to practice sound management and reach key community members with access to students and rural areas. KDA will train CBOs in nonprofit management and also conduct workshops for school directors, teachers, and parent committees about human rights, democracy, gender equity, and development vs. poverty reduction. KDA will also hold workshops for 13 peasant associations on civic education and conflict transformation.

Research Center for Civic and Human Rights Education (RCCHE)

To educate trainers to teach non-violence, human rights, civic engagement, and accountability in leadership RCCHE will conduct three three-day trainings for 150 trainees. Trainees will then present a streamlined version of the workshops in their respective villages. Local government officials will take part in the initial workshops and then assist other trainees in facilitating implementation at the local level.

Save Mothers and Children (SMCO)

To advance traditional democratic systems and reinstate the traditional institution of Siqqee in order to strengthen women’s rights in Oromia. SMCO will conduct two human rights awareness-building seminars for a total of 150 participants that include district administration, traditional leaders, women and youth activists, and kebele leaders. It will also coordinate 80 village-level meetings to advocate for changes in customary practices that perpetuate violence against women.
