To strengthen the capacity of local government, media, and civil society to interact with each other and communicate with their constituents. Action Plus will train elected officials in budget and strategic planning, and organize consultative meetings with community-based organizations on increasing civic participation in local decision-making.

Campaign for Good Governance (CCG)

To promote accountability and transparency from the government at the local level. CGG will engage its 14 field offices in districts throughout Freetown, Bo, and Makeni in monitoring, documenting, and reporting on the decentralization process. CCG will report on the effects of policies on the local population and on local councils’ compliance with the 2004 Local Government Act. CGG will also organize monthly forums titled Let the People Talk to discuss the ongoing progress and challenges of local councils in the decentralization process.

Centre for Democracy and Human Rights (CDHR)

To promote human rights, democracy, and good governance at the local level through building the capacity of local civil society organizations, traditional and religious leaders, and local court officials on human rights and advocacy. CDHR will educate citizens on human rights documents that have been signed and ratified by Sierra Leone through a series of workshops and trainings that will include discussions on local governance, human rights, and advocacy.

Green Scenery

To educate members of the motorbike drivers association on international human rights standards, democratic processes and practices, conflict prevention and resolution techniques, and peacebuilding skills. Green Scenery will provide commercial motorbike drivers in Freetown with leadership, advocacy, and lobbying skills and facilitate the process of organizing commercial motorbike drivers into a national union.

Media Foundation for Peace and Development (MFPD)

To increase awareness about civil rights and civic duties among Sierra Leoneans, especially young people and women, and promote civic education and dialogue on politics and governance. MFPD will continue broadcasting its live radio discussion program Democracy Now. MFPD will also broadcast Youth Now, which educates youth on political processes, non-violence, and activism, and the newly created Women Now, which will tackle issues affecting women.

National Accountability Group (NAG)

To strengthen the anti-corruption campaign and ensure effective interaction among key governance actors, NAG will organize sensitization workshops, consultative meetings, and focus group discussions with different governance actors. It will develop a module to guide the collection of local revenue, conduct capacity building workshops for community members, and sponsor interactive talk shows in the three main languages.

Network Movement for Justice and Development (NMJD)

To educate communities about citizens’ rights and responsibilities and promote peaceful co-existence through mediation exercises and public dialogue sessions. NMJD will educate community residents on their rights and responsibilities and on procedural steps to follow to access justice in the Tankoro, Gbense and Nimikoro chiefdoms in the Kono district. The activities are community-based and require residents to participate fully at various stages with the hope that outcomes will be enjoyed by the whole community.

Society for Democratic Initiatives (SDI)

To sensitize Sierra Leoneans to the need for a legal framework protecting freedom of information, and advocate for the passage of a freedom of information law. Endowment support will help SDI advocate for passage of the freedom of information bill.
