A local community group composed of 21 prominent community members from both the dominant and minority clans will provide ongoing conflict mediation.

Gol-Yome Rehabilitation and Development Organization (GREDO)

Mudug Peace and Human Rights Organization

Radio Banadir

By providing a platform for open-minded intellectuals, as well as traditional and religious leaders, Radio Banadir will help change the culture of violence, human rights abuses, and clan-motivated abductions and killings, instead promoting the rule of law and consensus.

To build lasting relationships between stakeholders crucial to the democratic process in the state of Puntland, Somalia. SFS will hold four workshops that link traditional democratic mechanisms to modern concepts, identify civic roles, and develop a conflict resolution and democracy building network. SFS will also develop a strategy for implementing the neighborhood college, a civic development program designed to help citizens learn about government, democratic processes, and their rights and responsibilities.

Somali Peace Line

To galvanize Somalis to embrace the electoral process as set out in the Transitional Federal Charter. Somali Peace Line will develop a list of people positioned to influence and comment on electoral procedure and election preparation and then hold three five-day workshops to discuss a strategy to keep the 2009 Somali elections on track. In a final two-day workshop, the most active participants will develop a plan to mobilize the population around the new strategy.

Somali Women Journalist Association (SOWJA)

United Africa Riksforbund (UNAFRIK)

UNAFRIK will broadcast ten hours of original programming in support of minority rights on Radio Somaliweyn, a popular new station that is accessible to communities throughout the Lower and Middle Shabelle regions of Somalia. The programs will be available on their website at www.somaliweyn.org.

Voice of Democracy Radio (VOD Radio)

To promote an environment for free expression and democracy by broadcasting accurate, objective news and encouraging the full participation of women in the political process. In addition to daily news, VOD Radio will hold three trainings for women on human rights and political participation that are augmented by radio programs that mirror the issues covered in the workshops.
