South Africa
International Republican Institute (IRI)
$50,000
To support the South African Institute of Race Relations (SAIRR) as an independent government monitor advocating for democratic principles in South Africa. SAIRR’s Free Society Project will publicly promote the development of a free and open society based on the rule of law, democratic governance, individual liberty, free enterprise, limited government and the creation of opportunities for the poor. Through regular publications, media contributions and briefings, SAIRR will alert the public to government violations of civil liberties and stimulate national debate around such issues.
