Balkan Investigative Reporting Network (BIRN) Kosovo

BIRN will produce a series of television debates on cutting-edge social, political, and economic topics affecting Kosovo’s citizens. Titled “Life in Kosovo,” the popular weekly program will be broadcast by Radio Television Kosova, while select episodes will air on B92 in Serbia.

Center for Democracy and Reconciliation in Southeast Europe

To train Kosovar high school teachers in modern teaching methods that promote democratic principles, such as the awareness and understanding of multi-perspective history, comparative approaches, and participatory learning. The Center will distribute civic education teaching materials to high schools and organize one training-of-trainers and two local teacher training workshops in how to use them.

Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE)

To foster corporate governance and transparency in Kosovo. Working with the Pristina-based Riinvest Institute for Development Research, CIPE will promote transparent and accountable publically-owned institutions by researching, analyzing, producing two reports, organizing a seminar, and convening a conference on the state of corporate governance in Kosovo’s state-owned sector.

Dokufest

To foster public debate on key democracy issues facing Kosovo and encourage collaboration between young media activists in the Western Balkans. DokuFest will organize weekly screenings of politically and socially themed documentaries as civic education tools for high school students in Prizren and surrounding towns. DokuFest will also bring together young filmmakers from the region to produce original documentary features about democracy issues in their societies.

Forum for Civic Initiatives (FIQ)

To promote effective and accountable government institutions in Kosovo. FIQ and its partners will gather information on the performance of local governments from the perspective of local citizens. In addition to an analysis of the data, FIQ will publish particularly striking examples of good and bad institutional practices, and use them as a platform for advocacy efforts promoting the accountability and efficiency of public institutions.

Herald LLC

To produce and distribute Gradjanski Glasnik (Civic Herald), the only independent Serbian-language newspaper published in Prishtina. With a circulation of 1,500 copies, the newspaper is distributed to Serb communities living in Northern Mitrovica and Serb-populated enclaves elsewhere in Kosovo. Endowment funding will cover the partial printing and distribution costs of 12 biweekly issues, as well as staff and operating costs of the newspaper.

Initiative for Progress (INPO)

To promote effective local government and increase citizen participation in decision-making processes. INPO will monitor local government institutions in southern Kosovo, publish and distribute monitoring reports, promote public access to information, and facilitate communication between citizens and elected officials at all government levels. INPO will also help the targeted municipalities to establish websites, enabling them to be more transparent and accountable to the public.

Kosova Democratic Institute

To encourage public debate on major governmental initiatives and increase the transparency and accountability of Kosovo’s Assembly. The Institute will monitor the work of the parliament for compliance with existing legislation and procedures, track overall legislative processes and trends, and publish and distribute scorecards and analytical reports. The Institute will also organize roundtables connecting civic activists, media and Assembly members.

Kosova Live News Agency

To promote the accessibility of high quality, objective information in Kosovo. Kosova Live will provide its daily news service, available in Albanian and Bosnian/Serbian, free of charge to 25 local independent radio stations that would otherwise not have access to independent sources of information. Several of the radio stations are multilingual and broadcast in minority languages.

Kosovo Center for International Cooperation

To strengthen the third sector in Kosovo’s Anamorava region. The Center will operate an NGO resource center, which will host monthly meetings for NGOs and civic activists, conduct a training seminar for civic activists, publish information leaflets and a newsletter, and organize three debates and a conference bringing together NGOs, local officials, and journalists.

Organization for Democracy, Transparency and Dignity – COHU

To foster accountability and transparency in Kosovo by monitoring and reporting on the work of government, as well as strengthening public support for the reform of anticorruption legislation and its effective enforcement. COHU will produce two reports on government performance, analyze the privatization process, implement a public awareness campaign, and develop and promote recommendations for legislative reform.

Youth Initiatives for Human Rights - Kosovo

To continue encouraging and promoting youth activism and ethnic reconciliation in Kosovo. The organization will conduct a small grants program for local civic initiatives focusing on interethnic reconciliation and cooperation, especially among youth. By providing financial and technical assistance, the NGO will encourage young activists from different ethnic backgrounds to cooperate on resolving local problems and participate in decision-making processes, human rights campaigns, and civic life.
