El Salvador
International Republican Institute (IRI)
$500,000
To strengthen the ability of political parties and actors in El Salvador to develop and communicate messages, platforms, and policies that respond to citizen concerns and to encourage public participation in the electoral process. IRI will engage the public and political actors in a dialogue that forges consensus about El Salvador’s most pressing policy challenges and address citizens’ concerns. Voter education and outreach campaigns by civil society organizations will encourage public participation.
National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI)
$150,000
To increase the transparency and credibility of the 2009 Salvadoran election process. Through regular visits by in-house experts, NDI will work to strengthen the technical and organizational capacity of Salvadoran observer groups to conduct a systematic and comprehensive range of pre-election and election-day monitoring activities. NDI will provide the observer groups with monitoring methodologies and will help them develop a strategic and coordinated observation approach.
