To encourage the adoption of better corporate governance practices in Mexico. This project will utilize corporate governance best practices to improve the private sector’s ability to operate with more transparency and higher ethical standards. CIPE and its partner Center for Excellence in Corporate Governance will provide training to companies and journalists in order to increase transparency in business transactions and to enhance public knowledge of how businesses should function in democratic society.
Centro de Derechos Humanos y Asesoría a Pueblos Indígenas

To promote reforms in Mexican institutional and cultural practices that will permit indigenous peoples in Oaxaca State to enjoy full civil and human rights, in compliance with Mexican and international law and to empower indigenous peoples in Oaxaca State to defend their human rights. CEDHAPI will provide legal assistance, pursue strategic litigation, and train indigenous communities about their human rights and means to defend them.
Centro de Encuentros y Diálogos (Center for Meetings and Dialogues) (CED)

To promote citizen participation in the development of public policy and to encourage citizen input in the management of public media. CED will work to improve citizen participation in the decision-making process in Morelos State by promoting new municipal regulations regarding citizen participation, encouraging citizen oversight of the state legislature, and ensuring citizen involvement in the management of the state’s public radio stations.
Ciudadanos en Medios (Citizens in Media)

To encourage balanced and objective journalism in Mexico. Ciudadanos en Medios will develop a non-partisan, media observation program for Mexico. Designed to quantify and qualify the time dedicated to political issues by the media, this media monitoring program will focus on the coverage of political entities, key social themes and issues, and to what extent the media serves as a forum for the exchange of views and public debate.
Colectivo de Investigación Desarrollo y Educación Entre Mujeres, A.C.
(Collective for Research, Development and Education among Women) (CIDEM)

To advocate for women’s rights and women’s participation in the formulation of public policy. CIDEM will continue to train its network of more than 200 female broadcasters throughout the country to use radio and other advocacy methods to raise awareness and promote women’s rights. CIDEM will organize regional and national workshops and numerous state-wide meetings and will coordinate multiple national radio campaigns.
Consejo Regional Indígena y Popular de X’pujil S.C.
(Regional and Popular Indigenous Council of X’pujil S.C.) (CRIPX)

To promote citizen input and participation in the decision-making processes and the development of a strategic plan for the municipality of Calakmul, Campeche. CRIPX will conduct citizen forums in the communities of Calakmul. Through a consultative process, CRIPX will draft a citizen proposal to address local government reform as well as management of public projects and natural resources.
International Republican Institute (IRI)

To implement good governance practices and policies in Oaxaca State through the use of transparency initiatives, to facilitate communication between the general public and state institutions, and to encourage municipal officials to incorporate citizen needs into decision-making processes. IRI will work with municipal governments to equip elected officials with practical institutional management skills and information regarding their localities, in order to foster good governance initiatives, and to improve the quality of service delivery.
Seguridad Ciudadana (Citizen Security)

To improve the internal processes of the Attorney General’s Office (AGO) in Mexico City and to encourage rigorous evaluation and oversight of the AGO’s performance. Seguridad Ciudadana will analyze the AGO’s procedures for opening case files and make recommendations for improvement. A more efficient, effective, transparent, and accountable system will serve as a basis for proposals on a broader reform of the city’s crime statistics collection.
Servicios Para una Educación Alternativa (Services for an Alternative Education) (EDUCA)

To encourage citizen participation, especially of indigenous communities in Oaxaca State. Through workshops on participation tools, EDUCA will help citizens become active participants in their municipalities, influencing policies, developing initiatives, and demanding accountability. At the same time, EDUCA will advocate for state-level legislation guaranteeing and protecting citizen participation in decision-making processes.
