To enhance citizens’ respect for the rights of PLWHAS, especially in workplaces and hospitals, in Benin, the Central African Republic, the Republic of Congo, Togo and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Azur Développement will empower civil society organizations to educate citizens about PLWHAS rights and the laws behind them.

Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE)

To strengthen the network of private sector organizations in Africa to promote democratic and market-oriented reform across the region and to enhance access, dissemination, and application on successful reform strategies in Africa. CIPE will host a multi-country roundtable with workshops and partner presentations, as well as expand communication platforms to better connect and facilitate access to information.

East & Horn of Africa Human Rights Defenders Network

To protect and build the capacity of human rights defenders in Africa. The East and Horn of Africa Human Rights Defenders Network will coordinate the Johannesburg +10: All Africa Human Rights Defenders Conference. The conference will enable human rights defenders to work together to establish a platform for the networking of human rights defenders, analyze existing mechanisms and develop new tools for the protection of human rights defenders.

Institute for Democracy in South Africa (IDASA)

To build the capacity of the African Democracy Forum (ADF) to become an independent, sustainable regional organization advocating for democracy in Africa. Housed within IDASA’s offices, the ADF will hire a coordinator and register as an independent organization. In addition, the ADF plans to launch a campaign For the Ratification of the African Democracy Charter and convene a general assembly meeting.

Global Rights

To strengthen the capacity of civil society activists to defend the rights of marginalized communities that are affected by the exploitation of natural resources. Global Rights will carry out a series of activities aimed at building the capacity of civil society activists in DRC, Guinea and Congo-Brazzaville to gather reliable data on economic and social rights violations and demand state and corporate compliance with international human rights standards, national law and industry best practices as a means to minimize human rights violations caused by irresponsible resource exploitation.

Reporters Without Borders/Reporters Sans Frontieres (RSF)

To increase public attention on freedom of expression and access to information in Africa. RSF will conduct fact-finding missions, gather and disseminate information about press freedom violations and provide humanitarian assistance to journalists and media organizations in danger.
