To build capacity of union affiliates of the Eastern Africa Journalists Association (EAJA). The Solidarity Center will support journalists unions in Somalia to protect and train members; in Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya to promote freedom of association and to bargain collectively; and in Rwanda and Burundi to transition from an association to a union with collective bargaining rights.

East & Horn of Africa Human Rights Defenders Network (EHAHRDN)*

To protect and build the capacity of human rights defenders in East Africa. The EHAHRDN will strengthen human rights defenders’ ability to protect themselves, coordinate campaigns, and lobby for wider recognition and bundling expertise as a network.

National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI)

To help emerging youth leaders in East Africa more effectively contribute to their political parties. NDI’s assistance will include workshops to strengthen the political leadership skills and support the party strengthening projects of youth participants. NDI will also advise on strategies for forming a formal regional network that would enable young political party members to collaborate, share ideas, and engage and support each other.
