American Center for International Labor Solidarity

To strengthen the capacity of trade unions to recruit and represent workers; to conduct effective advocacy campaigns revolving around the 2009 elections; to provide greater access to legal representation; and to empower women workers. The Solidarity Center will facilitate a series of strategic planning and coordination workshops as well as leadership and collective bargaining trainings; provide organizing support; conduct a two-week intensive course to train legal advocates in Indonesia’s labor courts; and provide candidate training for women union leaders seeking leadership roles within their unions.

Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE)

To strengthen corporate good governance in the public and private business sector in Indonesia. In conjunction with Indonesia Business Links (IBL), CIPE will organize a series of workshops on corruption, business ethics, and good governance policies to assist the Indonesian government’s Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in its efforts to improve corporate accountability and transparency. IBL will also publish a book of case studies on business ethics and produce a television program on corruption.

Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE)

To encourage implementation of corporate governance best practices among firms listed on the Indonesian Stock Exchange and to expand the understanding of corporate governance best practices in Indonesia. CIPE and Indonesian Institute for Corporate Directorship (IICD) will conduct an in-depth survey of the corporate governance standards in over 350+ publicly-listed Indonesian firms and organize a series of workshops to train corporate managers in good governance practices.

International Republican Institute (IRI)
$600,000
To strengthen the capacity of youth and women leaders at the provincial level to advocate for informed, accountable, and transparent government. In four provinces, the Institute will conduct a training program with up 400 youth and women from a variety of backgrounds and sectors, including political parties, civil society, and business. IRI will work with participants to strengthen their leadership skills and to design and implement issue-based initiatives that respond to local community needs.
