Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE)

To strengthen business associations in the Balkans and Caucasus and to develop their advocacy capacity by establishing a permanent network of trainers, facilitators, and consultants for the region. CIPE will identify 20 trainees from the Balkans and Caucasus, hold a training-of-trainers workshop, mentor the trainees in important skill sets, and support local seminars organized by the trainees in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Moldova, and Serbia.
Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE)

To strengthen partners’ approaches to economic and democratic reform based on lessons learned and success stories from 20 years of CIPE assistance in Europe and Eurasia. CIPE will organize a two-day conference in Kyiv, Ukraine, for past and current partners to evaluate progress in economic reform, share lessons learned, and design a strategy for future CIPE assistance. Participants will later prepare country-based op-eds and policy papers debating the direction for future reforms.
Education for Democracy Foundation (FED)
$190,000
To expand its civic education and NGO training program in Eurasia. The Poland-based FED will conduct at least 50 workshops in Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, Central Asia, the Caucasus and Mongolia, and expand its activities in Georgia, Tajikistan, Moldova, Azerbaijan and Mongolia. The workshops will provide civic education, leadership, NGO development and train-the-trainer skills. Two competitions for school newspapers and civic education lesson plans will be organized. The FED will maintain its website and produce four training brochures.
National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI)
$250,000
To help reinvigorate civil society development. NDI will bring together civic leaders from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine to take stock of trends in civil society-government relations and identify ways in which the international community can provide more effective support and solidarity. NDI will conduct study missions to Poland in cooperation with the European Institute for Democracy (EID) to enable political and civic activists from the Eurasia region to learn from Poland’s successful democratic transition.

To conduct study missions to Poland in cooperation with the European Institute for Democracy (EID) to enable political and civic activists from the Eurasia region to learn from Poland’s successful democratic transition. A trip for NDI local staff will enhance their capacity to support democratic reforms either as activists in their own rights or as assistance providers to others. NDI will also help EID to diversify its funding.
