Libraries & Documentation Centers

There is tremendous variety in the NGOs, IGOs and other bodies with a presence on the Internet and the number of such Web sites grows daily. The organizations currently presented in this section were chosen for their mission of fostering positive, democratic change around the world.


Given the dynamic nature of the Web, this section is not an exhaustive list of relevant organizations and responsibility for site content and maintenance rests with the owners. Please note that the inclusion of an organization does not imply endorsement by the National Endowment for Democracy. Carnegie Endowment for International Peace (CEIP)

European Union, Deligation of the European Commission to the United States

Coordinates a wide range of activities and products designed to enhance awareness and understanding of the European Union among the American public. Among these are the Delegation's web site - a major gateway to EU information for Americans - targeted newsletters, publications and brochures, opinion surveys, speaking tours and a Public Inquiries service that addresses the needs of academics and others interested in learning more about the European Union and the Trans-Atlantic relationship.

The Vaclav Havel Library

Its basic goal is to serve as an archive of documents chronicling the complex battle for democracy and freedom in the second half of the twentieth century through the works of Vaclav Havel. At the same time, the Vaclav Havel Library strives to initiate and stimulate research, discussion, and meetings devoted to the study of contemporary problems encountered during the transformation of a post-communist state into a socially, economically, and culturally developed civic society.
