To promote citizen participation in local governance and elections. The organization will host three trainings on decentralization and governance principles. Each participant will develop a community action plan to raise awareness of these issues in their communities. Furthermore, the grantee will organize five citizen debates to discuss local governance issues and the rights and responsibilities of citizenship. To share this information with a wider audience, the grantee will distribute brochures and host eight radio shows on the themes of political participation, local governance, and elections.

Empowering Citizens to Tackle Corruption

To increase the participation of rural communities in anti-corruption and good governance efforts. The grantee will further develop their online news and corruption reporting platform as well as create an application for mobile phones. The mobile application will make news and protocols for whistleblowers acting against corruption more accessible to citizens in rural communities and empower them to take part in anti-corruption campaigns.

Strengthening Women and Girls’ Access to Elected Positions and Participation in Peacebuilding

To promote women’s leadership and increase female participation in the 2020 elections. The organization will build the capacity of 150 women and 50 men in the regions with the fewest women in elected positions. By training women and male allies on leadership skills, budget management, and advocacy techniques in these regions, the grantee will empower women and promote gender equality in the political process. The grantee will also provide sub-grants to a consortium of civil society organizations engaging in women’s capacity building and empowerment related work.

Supporting Youth Participation in the Democratic Process

To promote greater political participation among Burkinabe youth. The grantee will focus on youth engagement at the local and national level. Gatherings between local political authorities and youth leaders across the country will provide youth the opportunity to share their priorities and hold local officials accountable to citizens. To emphasize the importance of civic engagement and to strengthen the capacities of youth, the grantee will also conduct a radio-based civic education campaign.
