Enhancing Citizens’ Understanding of the Electoral process

To promote transparent, peaceful, and inclusive legislatives elections. The organization will enhance citizens’ understanding of electoral processes and procedures. The organization will strengthen civil society’s capacity to inform voters on the role of the Independent Electoral Commission and the Constitutional Court. In addition, the grantee will encourage political parties to implement the gender quota law and will conduct an online campaign to educate youth and women on the electoral process to promote their peaceful participation in the legislative elections.

Improving Women’s Participation in Politics through Mentorship

To encourage greater participation of women in the democratic process in anticipation of the October 2020 elections. The grantee will train women leaders on the electoral process, and launch an awareness campaign to promote women’s leadership. The grantee will also mentor potential female candidates to raise their chances of success in the 2020 elections. Additionally, the organization will enroll male and female influencers as advocates for an increased role of women in politics.

To increase understanding of and resilience to the threat that online disinformation poses to peaceful and credible elections in Côte d’Ivoire, the Institute will assess the online electoral disinformation threat environment, and incentivize nontraditional partnerships to pilot efforts that mitigate disinformation impacts. It will work with a local partner to conduct online analysis through the pre-election period and host monthly multi-stakeholder forums on disinformation.

Mobilizing Youth for Peaceful Elections in Cote D’Ivoire

To strengthen youth resilience to political manipulation and violence and promote peaceful elections. The grantee will conduct workshops to educate youth on the electoral process, peaceful conflict resolution, and democratic values. The grantee will also conduct youth-led debates and an awareness raising campaign to encourage peaceful participation in the upcoming election. In addition, the grantee will convene an experience-sharing workshop to encourage youth to exchange information about anti-violence campaigns in their respective communities.

The organization will establish election information clubs to encourage youth to download the application and will train youth on monitoring and reporting of electoral violence and fact checking.

Promoting the Rule of Law and Peaceful Participation in the General Elections

To promote peaceful and transparent elections in Cote d’Ivoire. The organization will conduct skill-building workshops to enable civil society actors to monitor and document human rights violations during the elections. The grantee will equip civil society actors with election monitoring capacity to contribute to transparent elections. The grantee will encourage the use of legal recourse in electoral dispute resolution mechanisms and produce and broadcast radio programs to raise awareness on peaceful elections and encourage women and youth participation in the electoral process.

Strengthening Social Cohesion and Peace through Promotion of Democratic Culture, Citizenship and Non-Violence

The organization will equip youth and women from localities most prone to electoral violence with skills to raise awareness on social cohesion and democratic values. The grantee will host dialogue forums on non-violence and will support youth-led awareness-raising campaign on civism and the importance of voting. It will also monitor and document incitement to violence and report to local authorities to prevent eruption of post electoral violence.

To strengthen dialogue and social cohesion ahead of the national elections, the grantee will equip key actors with capacity to prevent and manage conflict during the electoral period, and facilitate political and democratic dialogue. The grantee will establish watchdog committees to monitor conflict and alert local authorities. Additionally, the grantee will conduct an awareness campaign to enhance understanding of the electoral process and encourage them to embrace nonviolence, social cohesion, political tolerance and democratic principles.
