Ghana 2020

Pre-Election Environment Assessments

International Republican Institute (IRI)

$50,000

To support democratic elections in Ghana ahead of the December 2020 general elections, the Institute will conduct two pre-election assessments (PEAMs) in July and September 2020 in coordination with other NED partners. The PEAMs would gather a comprehensive picture of the pre-election environment, including risks for and efforts to mitigate electoral violence and efforts to ensure the full participation of marginalized populations including women, youth, and persons with disabilities.

Promoting Peaceful and Credible Elections

National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI)

$400,000

To respond to growing concerns about possibly flawed or violent elections planned for December 2020, the Institute will partner with Ghanaian civil society to promote greater transparency and accountability of the electoral process through advanced techniques in election monitoring. The Institute will also demonstrate the international community’s support for credible elections by dispatching two high-level assessment teams to Ghana during the pre-election period.
