Building and Strengthening Modern Democratic Unions in Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua
Solidarity Center (SC)
To strengthen the capacity of Central American trade unions to represent workers’ interests in the agriculture and transportation sectors, the Center will provide training and technical assistance to trade unions in Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua to utilize worker rights instruments to defend freedom of association; establish participatory, democratic unions; negotiate collective bargaining agreements and resolve labor disputes; and build union leadership representing a broader base of workers, including underrepresented workers such as women, youth, migrant, indigenous, seasonal and subcontracted workers.
Strengthening Coalitions for Greater Accountability in the Northern Triangle
National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI)
To address the corrosive effects of persistent corruption and impunity on democratic governance and public institutions in the Northern Triangle countries of El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras. The Institute will continue to work with civil society and legislators in each country to develop and institute more effective public integrity mechanisms to combat corruption and impunity and to design and implement anti-corruption and impunity efforts utilizing lessons learned and best practices from exchanges with counterparts in the Northern Triangle region.
International Republican Institute (IRI)
To improve the ability of rural municipalities in Central America to effectively respond to citizen security needs. The institute will assist local citizen security actors in El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras through a series of trainings intended to improve the design and management of crime and violence prevention projects. Supplementing this enhanced capacity, the institute will co-sponsor crime and violence prevention projects and the provide a locally-tailored resource toolkit.
