Additionally, People in Need will create two internship programs for Nicaraguan activists to share information on the state of human rights in Nicaragua with people abroad in the Forum 2000 event. The second internship will take a Nicaraguan activist to the One World Film Festival to learn how to organize a human rights film festival.

Description: To enhance the understanding of democratic issues and civil and political rights among indigenous community leaders and to improve citizen participation in the formulation of regional development policies. The grantee will conduct a series of seminars for civil society leaders and public officials in the North Atlantic Autonomous Region of Nicaragua. This year, the grantee will coordinate with a leading, regional University in order to foster greater cooperation among civil society organizations in the region. This year the grantee will also focus on supporting technical and institutional expertise to organizations working on women's rights. The grantee will also produce a weekly radio program in Miskito and Spanish to gain maximum geographic coverage.
