About the event

Over the past few months, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has faced another destabilizing threat in the east.

While the most recent attacks have revived discussion on addressing the root causes of the larger Congo conflict that has led to over five million deaths, the views of informed Congolese have been underrepresented.

This discussion focused on the views of two Congolese civil society activists who work on human rights and security sector reform in Congo. They examined the current challenges to human rights and good governance in the DRC, their effect on instability in Congo, and options to address the eastern Congo crisis.
