To promote greater transparency and accountability in Guatemala’s conditional cash transfer program. Acción Ciudadana will carry out a statistical evaluation of the database which contains information about participants in the Mi Familia Progresa program. Acción Ciudadana will use the results of this analysis as well as information garnered from personal interviews with the participants to prepare a series of four reports about the effectiveness and efficiency of the Mi Familia Progresa program. Acción Ciudadana will use these reports to promote greater public debate about the program.

Asociación Estoreña Para el Desarrollo Integral (AEPDI)

To promote the participation of the Maya Q’eqchí community in democratic elections and government. AEPDI will engage women and youth in Maya Q’eqchí communities to help them register to vote and educate them to participate in democratic elections. AEPDI will also help participants work to strengthen transparency, accountability and responsiveness in local municipal governments.

Beneficent Technology, Inc.

To continue supporting research at the National Police Archive in Guatemala and the work of their partner organization, Proyecto de Recuperación de Archivo Histórico de la Policía Nacional. Benetech will continue sampling and analyzing documents as part of its effort to reveal evidence about crimes – including murders and disappearances – during Guatemala’s thirty-six year civil war. Benetech will also provide expert witness testimony in legal cases aimed at holding the perpetrators of these crimes accountable.

Centro de Acción Legal-Ambiental y Social de Guatemala (CALAS)

The Centro de Acción Legal-Ambiental y Social de Guatemala (CALAS) will foster citizen participation and government accountability and transparency in the formulation and implementation of environmental public policy. CALAS will train members of civil society organizations and community groups to use access to information tools to obtain relevant information from public agencies regarding environmental issues and utilize them to advance their programs.

National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI)

To increase women’s and indigenous candidates’ competiveness to be included on party lists; engage electoral authorities to better design and implement programs that increase the participation of underrepresented sectors; provide assistance to congressional committees to increase their capacity to advance legislation and develop budgets; and provide technical assistance to parties in designing and implementing plans that target underrepresented sectors.
