To improve elected leaders’ perfor­mance in Muyinga, Gitega and Bururi provinces. JCDR will hold trainings and design theater performances to convey the importance of and methods by which citizens can evaluate their leaders.

National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI)

To improve citizen access to information about presidential candidates and cam­paign issues and provide citizens with a constructive means of engaging in the electoral process. NDI and the Commission on Presidential Debates will assist the Civil Society Coalition for Election Monitoring (COSOME) to develop educational materi­als, methods and organizational capacity for engaging citizens on issues through debates around the 2010 elections.

National Democratic Institute for International Affairs

To strengthen democratic institutions. NDI will conduct a program that will provide leadership skills and knowledge of political party development practices to party youth through a series of skills building seminars. To support efforts to reduce conflict in Burundi, NDI will foster interparty dialogue between Burundian political party youth leaders by hosting an interparty roundtable focused on the role of youth in elections and conflict.
