To continue to strengthen the capacity of the Eastern Africa Journalists Association (EAJA) to develop the internal capacity of the national journalists’ unions to foster regional collaboration, to allow EAJA lead­ership to reevaluate their strategic five year plan (now in the third year), to advocate for increased media protections during a time of national parliamentary and presidential elections, to increase organizing and col­lective bargaining capacity, to empower fe­male journalists through improved gender parity in journalist unions, and to increase the role that journalists’ unions play in fur­thering the democratization of the region.

Freedom House

To empower civil society organizations (CSOs) to develop long term strategic plans, coordinate activities and communi­cate effectively. Freedom House will work with CSOs in South Sudan, Somaliland and Somalia (Puntland). Freedom House will conduct strategic planning retreats, and trainings in political participation and communication for 10 organizations in each region and employ a scenario analysis tool so each organization can generate policy recommendations and joint plans of action.
