To promote grassroots participation in local government and train commu­nity and civil society leaders in Kenema district in southeastern Sierra Leone to demand better governance and access to information from district and local coun­cilors. Action Plus will organize a series of training workshops and meetings for civil society and state actors to develop strategies for collaboration and feedback. It will also organize monthly radio discus­sion programs to create a platform for interaction and information dissemination.

Green Scenery

To promote a culture of human rights, rule of law and democratic principles among commercial motorbike riders as­sociations (BRAs) in Sierra Leone. Green Scenery will organize capacity build­ing workshops to promote leadership, unionization, and project design. It will organize regional meetings in Kono and Kenema, as well as organize public rallies to promote public awareness of the BRAs.

National Accountability Group (NAG)

To expand NAG’s anti-corruption cam­paign to strengthen the financial manage­ment capacities of local councils in Port Loko, Pujehun, and Kailahun districts in Sierra Leone. NAG will organize focus group meetings in each district to develop strategies for effective tax collection and utilization, and it will organize trainings on advanced financial management systems and record keeping. It will also sponsor radio discussion programs for council members to discuss their development plans and gather feedback from citizens.

Network Movement for Justice and Development (NMJD)

To strengthen access to justice and peace in Sierra Leone. NMJD will promote basic human rights and peaceful co-existence in five chiefdoms in Kono district through mediation and public dialogue. It will orga­nize refresher trainings for 15 paralegals to provide pro-bono legal services and advice to the public, as well as organize seminars for community and legal stakeholders.

Society for Democratic Initiatives (SDI)
$37,000
To intensify SDI’s campaign for the pas­sage of the Freedom of Information Bill (FOIB). It will develop comprehensive capacity building trainings that will target different sectors of the country to ensure proper implementation of Freedom of In­formation (FOI) law. It will continue its me­dia campaign using jingles, documentaries, and newspaper advertisements to highlight the correlation between the FOI law and human development in the country. SDI will also continue monitoring and reporting on the state of the media in Sierra Leone.
