Brothers Relief and Development Organization (BRADO)

To help minority farming communities establish associations, advocate for their rights, and enhance coordination between farming communities in Lower Shabelle region. BRADO will establish four institutions representing farmers from 20 villages. BRADO will conduct four organization capacity building workshops, two advocacy forums, and produce manuals and brochures for the new organizations. BRADO visit 20 villages to sensitize them about democracy and decision-making processes in modern administrative systems.
Center for Democracy and Human Rights (CDHR)

To enhance the skills of civil society activists, traditional leaders and justice and security officials on democratization, managing conflict and restoring the rule of law. CDHR will hold a stakeholders meeting to raise awareness and then five workshops that cover transitional justice, the role of civil society, human rights, victim rights and political participation during conflict. CDHR will continue their human rights investigation and documentation activities.
Dr. Ismail Juma’le Human Rights Organization (DIJHRO)

To encourage action to reduce violations of women’s rights and promote greater respect for those rights. DIJHRO will conduct three trainings for women leaders and journalists and gather and disseminate data on human rights violations in Somalia.
Elman Peace and Human Rights Center (EPHRC)

To enhance the capacity of investigators and displaced youth to monitor and document rights violations in camps for internally displaced persons. EPHRC will hold meetings with camp leaders, identify youth volunteers and select investigators from their own staff to participate in three five-day workshops on human rights monitoring. EPHRC will produce and broadcast weekly radio programs on human rights and local incidents and conditions.
Hiiraan Online, Inc.

To enhance the skills of journalists, improve online content and increase the technical capacity of the website. Hiiraan Online will hold a five-day training in Nairobi for six key journalists from Somalia on conflict reporting, story research and planning and the role of peace building in journalism. Hiiraan Online will upgrade the data server and news software to prevent systems crashes and facilitate website editing.
Kaalo Relief and Development Organization

To increase understanding of the Puntland constitution prior to the 2011 general referendum. Kaalo will conduct awareness-raising activities for the general public on the proposed constitution through eight two-day forums and radio broadcasts with constitutional experts. Kaalo will develop a documentary film detailing the 19 year history of the organization. The film will be used as a fundraising tool and provided as an insight to civil society development in Puntland.
Mudug Peace and Human Development Organization (MPHDO)

To empower women’s groups and local officials with the tools to advocate for human rights in Somalia and enhance human rights knowledge among journalists, law enforcement personnel, and the public in south Galkayo. MPHDO will conduct six, three-day workshops for relevant stakeholders on democracy and good governance, promoting and defending women’s rights, and general human rights and the rights of prisoners. MPHDO will broadcast civic and rights messages twice a day.
National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ)

To strengthen the role of journalists and media as watchdogs and facilitators of peaceful, democratic discourse and build the capacity of journalists to campaign for media independence and promote its role in civil society, democratic discourse and human rights. NUSOJ will conduct two workshops on investigative journalism, two on political and security reporting in conflict zones, and continue its activity of monitoring, investigating, reporting and protesting violations of press freedom.
Radio Banadir Broadcasting

To enhance the capacity of traditional and community leaders to communicate effectively and remove barriers among civil society organizations in Mogadishu. Radio Banadir will conduct seminars, radio programs and workshops that help community members, civil society leaders and local officials identify new strategies for effective interaction and coordination of activities. Radio Banadir will also provide air time for these leaders to articulate public messages and improve solidarity between leaders from different social sectors.
Radio Daljir

To conduct advocacy and outreach campaigns that lead to social change that improves the quality of life for women in Somalia. The Daljir Women’s Desk at Radio Daljir will hold a two day project orientation for its staff, correspondents and community coordinators, ten women’s open house meetings, 36 radio programs, multiple radio dramatizations and two advocacy campaigns to reduce underage marriage and to promote equality in marriage.
Sharmarke Peace Foundation

To promote peace through conflict-sensitive reporting by journalists and media houses in Somalia. Sharmarke Peace Foundation will conduct four three-day workshops for 120 journalists and staff from media houses in south central Somalia. Participants will learn about and discuss the merits of engaging in and supporting conflict sensitive journalism, conflict analysis and mapping, and the distinctions between negative peace and positive peace.
Somali Family Services

To increase civic participation and build strong government-citizen relations. Somali Family Services will implement the “neighborhood college” concept in three cities in the Puntland region of Somalia to help citizens learn about local government and democratic processes and encourage them to participate in democracy building. SFS will create sustainable forums where parliamentarians, government officials and citizens can engage one another to explain their various roles and needs.
Tanaad Relief and Development Organization (TARDO)

To increase the number of women in the Himan and Heeb Administration and enhance their role in decision making institutions. TARDO will conduct four, three-day workshops for government officials and civil society, and will include a media component for journalists to encourage their involvement in peace-building processes and instill media ethics and professionalism.
Voice of Democracy Radio Xamar

To create a media environment in which information flow strengthens democracy by enabling more informed citizen participation. Voice of Democracy Radio will conduct four workshops, two forums and 120 hours of radio programming focused on civic education, democracy, peace and conflict transformation. VOD Radio will purchase a new microprocessor and antenna and move the station to a safer location.
Women Association for Relief and Development Actions (WARDA)

To reduce human rights violations and inform policy leaders and the community about the potential for Birimigoydo to limit violence. WARDA will conduct three two-day workshops and a 12 month series of radio announcements to revive Birimigoydo, the Somali code of conduct during war. Birimigoydo mandates that women, children, elderly, doctors, and religious persons should not be targeted during conflict.
Yamayska Foundation

To enhance coordination between peace committees and security committees in north and south Galkayo. Yamayska will conduct nine one-day workshops that focus on dialogue and planning for the committees and local officials, who will develop a coordinated action plan to resolve recent conflicts between north and south Galkayo. Yamayska will also develop and broadcast radio programs and public service announcements that promote peace and stability in this strategically important area of Somalia.
