To continue the capacity building ef­forts of West African unions to promote democracy, accountability, and equitable development. The Solidarity Center will support the organizing efforts of Liberian unions. In Nigeria, the Center will support union democracy efforts and build organizing skills among oil and health care unions. Additionally, the Center will expand its outreach to extractive sector unions in Guinea and Gabon.

Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-GHANA)
$60,000
To facilitate the establishment of a West Af­rican network of election observer groups that promotes electoral transparency. CDD-GHANA will serve as the secretariat for the newly established network and provide ad­ministrative resources along with logistical and technical expertise. The network will be assisted by National Democratic Institute and the Southern African Development Community -Elections Support Network.

National Democratic Institute for International Affairs
$300,000
To assist domestic election monitoring groups to develop a regional network for sharing experiences and expertise and incorporating best practices in their observation efforts. The resulting net­work will improve the effectiveness of domestic monitoring in West Africa. NDI will facilitate organizational meetings for the network steering committee, train­ing sessions for all network members, and a peer learning exchange mis­sion during an election in the region.
