Empowering Young Women & Girls through Civic Education

Ms. Goma Devi Bastola is the President of the Rural Women’s Network in Nepal where she works to promote human rights and social justice for rural women and youth. During her fellowship, she is focusing on how civil society can work with community leaders and political actors to make girl’s education a priority in rural communities. In addition, she plans to focus on the role of technology in addressing sexual violence against girls and promoting girl’s access to education in rural communities. Following her fellowship, Ms. Bastola plans to develop online tools and trainings; highlighting how empowering marginalized women and youth through education can lead to better governance and democratic practices.  She will also develop an outreach strategy to encourage Nepalese youth networks and organizations to become engaged participants in the World Youth Movement for Democracy.
