To strengthen the role of the judiciary in enforcing the rule of law and constitu­tional democracy in Nigeria. Access to Justice will collaborate with the Nige­rian Bar Association to increase public awareness about the judgment and order compliance registries across the country. It will organize a stakeholders forum, as well as produce and advocate for a draft bill that confers the judiciary with ex­tended powers to enforce its decisions.

Center for Constitutional Governance (CCG)

CIPE will partner with NASME to conduct a diagnostic assessment of NASME and its state chapters, organize four training workshops and provide technical as­sistance to NASME state chapters and the national secretariat so that they have the proper tools to effectively advocate for democratic and economic reform.

Center for Research and Documentation (CRD)

CRD will develop research instruments, recruit research assistants, administer question­naires, conduct focus group discussions, and organize town hall meetings in six local government areas across the state.

Community Policing Partners for Justice, Security and Democratic Reforms (CPPJSDR)

Connecting Gender for Development (COGEN)

To create awareness about the rights of women through intensive national campaigns and promote gender equal­ity through advocating for the passage of the Gender and Equal Opportunities Bill in Kaduna and Zamfara states. COGEN will organize a national campaign around the Beijing Platform for Action (BPFA). It will organize meetings; broadcasts live radio programs, produce posters, and continue lobbying for the passage of the gender bill.

Environmental Rights Action (ERA)

To promote public debate about the suit­ability of government proposed carbon trade and clean development mechanism (CDM) initiatives as policy options for addressing gas flaring. ERA will inten­sify its gas flare-out campaign, organize environmental parliament meetings in three states in the Niger Delta region, and compile a report to assess existing and future CDM projects in the region.

Gender and Human Values Proactive (HUVAP)

To strengthen the technical capacity of the Zamfara state legislature, and pro­mote effective legislative-constituency relationships in the state. HUVAP will organize basic information communica­tions technology (ICT) workshops for legislators and legislative aides. It will organize civic education and community training workshops, as well as a com­munity forum to promote interaction between legislators and their constituents.

Human Rights Justice and Peace Foundation (HRJPF)

To promote democratic governance in market institutions, strengthen the capac­ity of citizens to monitor government expenditure, and advocate for the reform of adverse local government electoral laws in Abia, Enugu, and Ebonyi states in southeastern Nigeria. HRJPF will organize stakeholder forums, prepare a draft bill to address undemocratic provisions within the different local government electoral laws, broadcast radio announcements, and organize democracy building workshops for market associations in six markets.

Human Rights Law Service (HURILAWS)

To mobilize and coordinate the opinions of civil society groups across the coun­try on the constitutional review Debate. HURILAWS will continue to coordinate, compile, and streamline opinions and suggestions from Nigerians. It will orga­nize three media briefings, attend public hearings across the country, and submit suggestions to the National Assembly.

Independent Advocacy Project (IAP)

To promote a culture of accountability among youth by promoting anti-corruption curriculum in elementary schools in Lagos state. IAP will develop an Anti-Corruption Curriculum for Elementary Schools (ACCES), organize focus group discussions, conduct a stakeholder forum, organize training workshops, and organize intensive advocacy ef­forts to the state and local government legislatures to adopt the curriculum.

Institute for Human Rights and Humanitarian Law (IHRHL)

IHRHL will publish a 24-page newspaper tabloid Humanity Today, and it will create a public policy working group and host discussion forums to develop strategies and exchange ideas about policy issues in the region.

Kebetkache Women Development & Resource Center (KWDRC)

To build a core group of women peace advocates and reduce the vulnerability of women in situations of conflict in the Niger Delta. KWDRC will organize a public aware­ness campaign; broadcasts radio jingles, produce pamphlets, and organize commu­nity workshops. KWDRC will also promote national and international awareness by liaising with the Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS) commis­sion on women, peace and security.

Network on Police Reform in Nigeria (NOPRIN)

To advance police reform through promot­ing public participation in media discussion and mobilizing public opinion on issues of police welfare and police abuse. NOPRIN will broadcast live interactive television debates, and produce a one-hour docu­mentary about the police in Nigeria.

New Initiative for Social Development (NISD)

To increase female political participation in the state legislature by 2011. NISD will collaborate with women’s rights advocacy groups in Ekiti state to organize workshops with women leaders and political parties. It will provide legal advice to prospec­tive female candidates and pro-bono legal services to female victims of abuse and discrimination. NISD will also produce a radio program and publish abridged versions of laws that promote or in­hibit the rights of women in the state.

Niger Delta Environment and Relief Foundation (NIDEREF)

To improve local government account­ability in four local government areas in Rivers State. NIDEREF will organize voter education workshops for civil society and local government representatives, produce radio programs and jingles, as well as distribute 20,000 posters with messages promoting government accountability and violence free elections in 2011. NIDEREF will also continue to gather resources and information to build a database on local government administration for its Local Government Resource Center (LGRC).

Nigerian Automobile Technicians Association (NATA)

To provide a platform for representation for informal workers in Nigeria. NATA will conduct a nationwide survey to identify informal workers’ associations. It will organize a national conference, organize strategic meetings, establish a national secretariat, and produce an advocacy training manual for informal workers.

Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP)

To encourage active local community participation in the anti-corruption cam­paign. SERAP will conduct a legislative advocacy campaign in five local govern­ment areas in Lagos state. It will publish a citizen’s anti-corruption guide, provide legal support to victims of corruption, and develop posters and pamphlets.

The Fund for Peace (FfP)

To increase the capacity of local civil society organizations to monitor and mitigate political pressures that could contribute to violence before or after the 2011 elections. FfP will conduct training workshops on its Conflict Assessment System Tool (CAST) for 30 civil society organizations in the country. It will compile and circulate collected data through its web-based Universal Knowledge of Local Network (UNLocK) portal, and it will also produce a final report on its findings.

Women Advocates Research and Documentation Center (WARDC)

To initiate an assessment of the Niger Delta Regional Master Plan (NDRMP) and to engage policymakers with the outcomes of the assessment. WARDC will coordi­nate a civil society assessment process led by activists from seven states in the Niger Delta region. It will produce cop­ies of the final assessment report and will organize presentations of the report at the National Assembly and State Houses of Assemblies in the respective states.

Women for Development and Leadership (WODEL)

To strengthen the capacity of lawmakers in Ekiti State to understand their repre­sentative functions and to raise awareness among party leaders to support legisla­tive candidates with antecedents of good performance for re- election. Women for Development and Leadership (WODEL) will organize a series of workshops to build the governance capacity of lawmakers and party leaders in the state. It will attend town hall meetings organized by legislators and will conduct visits to the state legislature to record bills and resolutions passed.

Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA)

To develop leadership skills among youth, and strengthen their understanding of the fundamentals of democracy and human rights in Bauchi State. YMCA will continue its civic education training for youth from six secondary schools in the state. It will organize a peer educators training camp, and will coordinate the creation of democ­racy youth clubs in the respective schools.

Youngstars Development Initiative

To promote youth democracy education and participation in the upcoming 2011 elections. Youngstars Foundation will continue its multi-faceted educational program entitled “Democracy Series: Participation, Learning and Action Youths” (DESPLAY). It will publish a bi-annual magazine, produce a weekly radio discus­sion program, sponsor campus debates, and maintain its website which is an online community for young people across the country to exchange ideas, keep blogs, or participate in online debates.

Youth for Technology Foundation (YTF)

YTF will mobilize awareness campaigns and organize constructive computer-based training workshops in 27 local govern­ment areas to creatively teach youth basic computer and civic participation skills.
