To promote worker rights and trade union involvement in Zimbabwe’s political and economic development. The Solidarity Cen­ter will support the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) to improve communi­cation with its members through the publi­cation of a bi-weekly newsletter, and with its international supporters through en­gagement at international forums. The proj­ect will also support the ZCTU’s economic research institute and Parliamentary Advo­cacy Desk to enable labor activists to ad­vocate for democratic pro-worker policies and contribute to Zimbabwe’s development.

American Federation of Teachers Educational Foundation (AFTEF)

To facilitate teacher participation in Zimbabwe’s constitutional review pro­cess and suggest revisions that protect children and improve labor conditions for teachers. AFTEF will work through two local unions to designate a task force to work on constitutional revisions and hold national, provincial and local work­shops for the members to educate them about the constitutional process and what they have at stake in the process.

Bulawayo Progressive Residents Association (BPRA)

To enhance community participation in local governance and open dialogue. BPRA will build the community’s capacity to hold elected officials in Bulawayo Province accountable. BPRA will promote public awareness and participation in local gover­nance, train community groups in docu­mentation and report writing, and promote constituency leader-community dialogue.

Center for International Private Enterprise

To increase the voice and leadership of women entrepreneurs in Zimbabwe and to enhance their access to opportunity and ability to contribute to the democratic process. CIPE will conduct a needs as­sessment of women entrepreneurs and a diagnostic assessment of women’s support organizations followed by a capacity building workshop to empower women to take an active leadership role in the governance of Zimbabwe.

Center for Community Development In Zimbabwe (CCDZ)

To enhance the transparency, account­ability and good governance of civic leaders. CCDZ will enhance the capacity of civic leaders to carry out their duties in a democratic, transparent and non-partisan manner and push for the opening of democratic space for the participa­tion of previously marginalized citizens at the local level. CCDZ will also build and strengthen the capacity of com­munities to work collaboratively with civic leaders to demand transparency, accountability and good governance.

Institute for Young Women Development (IYWD)

To promote human rights awareness and democratic participation of young women. IYWD will educate and inform marginal­ized young women in rural, farming, mining and peri-urban communities in Mashonaland Central Province of Zimba­bwe of their human rights and encourage them to participate in the development and democratic processes of the country, including the ongoing constitution mak­ing and national healing processes.

Mass Public Opinion Institute (MPOI)

To promote economic revival and demo­cratic governance and to encourage Zim­babweans to express themselves on issues of concern as well as to end the culture of fear and disengagement. MPOI will conduct public opinion survey to assess citizen attitudes towards the state of the economy, standards of living, and perceptions of the Inclusive Government (IG) and the national healing and reconciliation process.

National Constitutional Assembly (NCA)

To promote an open, democratic and people-driven constitution. NCA will campaign for a democratic constitu­tion that will create a peaceful, pros­perous and united Zimbabwe founded on human dignity and social justice.

National Democratic Institute for International Affairs

To help facilitate a participatory and democratic constitutional revision process, NDI will assist civil society organizations in Zimbabwe to raise public awareness about the new constitution in advance of the July 2010 referendum. NDI will also help civic partners to conduct issue-based advocacy around the new constitution and engage strategically with political leaders in iden­tifying issues of importance to the public.

Radio Dialogue Trust (RDT)

To provide a non-partisan, participatory community radio, and enhance communi­cation and freedom of expression. RDT will through its short wave broadcasting in Bu­lawayo, provide an alternative source of in­formation and opinions to counter balance that from the state-controlled broadcaster.

Savanna Trust

To enhance the participation of grassroots communities in the democratization pro­cess through theatre for community devel­opment. Savanna will mobilize community theatre groups to promote dialogue on democracy, human rights and other devel opment issues and to enhance awareness on democracy and human rights in various farming, mining and migratory communities in Mashonaland West, Midlands and Mata­beleland South provinces of Zimbabwe.

Sexual Rights Center (SRC)

To promote the inclusion of sexual minorities in the constitution and the human rights. SRC will train service providers, civil society groups, media and the judiciary to begin addressing the issue of homosexuality with sensitivity and within a rights framework. SRC will promote and defend the human rights of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgen­der, and intersex (LGBTI) communities in Bulawayo province of Zimbabwe.

Student Christian Movement of Zimbabwe (SCMZ)

To enhance the ability of young people from the Christian community to par­ticipate in democratic governance and decision making processes. SCMZ will mobilize, enhance and create a platform for young people, particularly from the Christian community, to qualitatively and meaningfully participate in demo­cratic governance and decision mak­ing processes throughout Zimbabwe.

Students Solidarity Trust (SST)

To enhance the participation of students in national elections and the constitu­tional referendum. SST will facilitate the participation of students in national elections as voter educators, election staff and campaign staff; promote the right to education in the bill of rights; contribute to the elimination of politi­cal violence against student activists and empower students to make an informed vote in the constitutional referendum.

Youth Agenda Trust

To promote collective action on an electoral agenda for youth and to enhance informa­tion and participation by marginalized youth in democratic process Youth Agenda will enhance the participation of young people in building and defending democracy in Zimbabwe by creating regular plat­forms of interaction, debate and action.

Youth Forum

To facilitate sustainable dialogue for peace among youth. Youth Forum will facilitate sustainable dialogue for peace among young people from across the political divide, including church youth, civic society youth, young entrepre­neurs, and victims and perpetrators of political violence in townships, rural, mining, and farming communities in eight districts in Masvingo Province and Mashonaland Central Province.

Zimbabwe Community Development Trust (ZCDT)

To facilitate participatory planning pro­cesses between victims of politically motivated violence and local authorities. ZCDT will facilitate the integration of victims of politically motivated violence, including internally displaced persons (IDPs) and other marginalized groups into local policy formulation and implementa­tion processes in rural areas of Masvingo, Manicaland and Mashonaland West.

Zimbabwe Human Rights Association (ZimRights)

To ensure that the public views are cap­tured accurately by the COPAC consultative meetings and citizens are ready to exercise their right to decide during the constitution­al referendum and elections. ZimRights will monitor the findings from the consultative meetings of COPAC, reduce the number of victims of politically motivated violence, ensure that people’s views are taken into account and encourage citizens to partici­pate in the upcoming electoral processes.
