American Center for International Labor Solidarity

To support legal assistance to document worker rights violations and allow workers to present them to the Ministry of Social Affairs. The Solidarity Center will broaden its work to include nongovernmental organizations as well as traditional union federations and emerging federations to strengthen advocacy for the protection of workers’ rights. The Solidarity Center will facilitate exchanges between Haitian workers and their counterparts in the Dominican Republic to highlight examples of creative strategies to protect worker rights.

Center for Citizen Training and Development Support (CEFCAD)

To foster the consolidation and sustainability of community organizations in nine rural communities in Haiti by strengthening their institutional capacity, helping them draft participatory development plans, and encouraging communication and joint initiatives with elected authorities. CEFCAD will develop a new training manual on electoral participation, which grassroots organizations will disseminate in their communities. CEFCAD will also raise public awareness on the importance of participating in the upcoming electoral processes.

Collectif des Notables de Cité Soleil (CONOCS)

To reinforce the institutional capacity of community-based organizations in Cité Soleil and to encourage tolerance and promote a culture of peace in Cité Soleil. CONOCS will hold trainings for community leaders on organizational strengthening and democracy, and facilitate 12 citizen debates on issues of concern to the local population. CONOCS will further the breadth of its impact by broadcasting information on human rights across Cité Soleil.

Comité d’Initiatives de la 3ème section du Limbé (CI3SL)

To consolidate the capacity of community organizations in the Third District of Limbé and Lower Limbé to lead local development projects in collaboration with local authorities. CI3SL will provide tailored training and funding for two micro projects to improve the ability of organizations to identify and respond to local needs. Additionally, CI3SL will conduct a civic education program to raise awareness of civic rights and responsibilities among youth.

Coordination des Comités d’Initiative de la Commune de Gonaïves (CCICG)

To consolidate the capacity and raise the profile of community mediators in five districts of Gonaïves. CCICG will provide specialized training to community mediators and local officials on the Haitian judicial system and citizen rights and responsibilities. Additionally, CCICG will facilitate meetings between community mediators and representatives of the judicial system to promote constructive dialogue and foster collaboration between mediators and local judicial officials.

Coordination Communale de Comités d’Initiatives Limbé (CCIL)

To strengthen the organizational and leadership capacity of community-based organizations in Limbé. CCIL will provide civic education training, and will facilitate dialogue between civil society leaders and their elected officials. Additionally, CCIL will provide technical and financial support for the implementation of small community projects.

Coordination Nationale des Organisations de Base (CONOB)

To strengthen the capacity of local elected officials and grassroots leaders in conflict-ridden neighborhoods of Port-au-Prince to respond to their needs, encourage active citizen participation and consolidate nascent peace. CONOB will provide a small subgrant and technical support to each community to design and execute a micro project, allowing committee members and local officials to apply their new skills and to consolidate their role as leaders in their communities.

Fondation Espoir / Jeune Ayiti

To engage youth in the development of their communities through technical training and community volunteer work and to promote the sustainability of Fondation Espoir’s rural training centers. Fondation Espoir will work with the National Institute for Professional Training to transform its existing training program into a technical degree on community development. Fondation Espoir will continue to work towards the self-sustainability of its three rural training centers.

Jurimédia

To promote local democratic practices and transparency at the municipal level in the North Department. Jurimédia will strengthen the capacity of a nascent network of democracy and human rights activists by conducting a training-of-trainers workshop and supplying them with a training toolkit. Jurimédia will also continue to support the network as they survey the human rights situation and advocate for greater accountability in local government.

Rassemblement des Citoyens Organisés de la Grand Anse (RACOGA)

To promote dialogue and improve relations between elected authorities and civil society representatives in the municipalities of Moron and Chambellan. RACOGA will strengthen the capacity of grassroots organizations to engage local governments in discussions about citizen needs. Simultaneously, RACOGA will help elected officials to prepare a summary of their accomplishments and will facilitate discussions between outgoing authorities and candidates running for office in the 2009 local elections.

Développement d’Haïti (RANCODHA)

To encourage citizen oversight and accountability of public officials by grassroots leaders in Bel Air and Cité Soleil, and to reinforce the capacity of grassroots organizations to influence decisions concerning local development. RANCODHA will continue to train grassroots leaders to assess public policy and practice, and techniques for community advocacy and mobilization to hold elected officials accountable.
