Carrie Filipetti

Executive Director, Vandenberg Coalition

Carrie Filipetti is the Executive Director of the Vandenberg Coalition, where she leads efforts to advance a strong, principled, and bipartisan U.S. foreign policy rooted in national security and democratic values. She is also a Distinguished Fellow at the Wilson Center. 

From 2019 to 2021, Filipetti served in senior roles at the U.S. Department of State, including as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Cuba and Venezuela in the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs and as Deputy Special Representative for Venezuela. In recognition of her service, she received the State Department’s Superior Honor Award. She also served as Senior Advisor to the Havana Incidents Task Force, coordinating an interagency response to unexplained health incidents affecting U.S. personnel and helping identify long-term care solutions. 

Earlier in her government career, Filipetti was a Senior Policy Advisor at the U.S. Mission to the United Nations, where she advised Ambassador Nikki R. Haley on counterterrorism, Middle East policy, and Western Hemisphere affairs. 

Filipetti began her career in the philanthropic sector, spending five years at a private family foundation as Director of Portfolio Management, where she helped guide the foundation’s transition to a nationally recognized leader in strategic philanthropy. She also served as a senior advisor and co-founder of Start-Up Nation Central, a Tel Aviv–based nonprofit connecting global partners with Israeli innovation.  

She holds a degree in Religious Studies from the University of Virginia, where she was both a Jefferson Scholar and an Echols Scholar.
