Diana Medvednikova

“Strategies for Online Advocacy in Kazakhstan” (March 2024–July 2024)

Ms. Diana Medvednikova is the director and co-founder of the Legal Media Center, an Astana-based nonprofit organization that provides legal protection and advice to journalists, advocates for free speech and access to information, and analyzes the state media funding system in Kazakhstan. Her work is informed by extensive experience as a journalist reporting on issues in Kazakhstan for platforms including Nasha Gazieta and Vzglyad. A recognized leader in Kazakhstan’s human rights community, Ms. Medvednikova has served as a member of Kazakhstan’s Human Rights Expert Council and as a member of a working group focused on reforming mass media laws under Kazakhstan’s Parliament and Ministry of Information and Communication. She has co-authored several works related to speech and the media. During her fellowship, Ms. Medvednikova plans to develop a guide to effective online advocacy, geared toward community activists from Kazakhstan and Central Asia.
