Biography

Hon. Charles Djrekpo is currently NDI’s Resident Director in Côte d’Ivoire, where he has managed efforts to mitigate election-related conflict, including programs with the country’s political parties, women and youth leaders.  After a brief absence during  Côte d’Ivoire’s recent political crisis, he has returned to Abidjan to resume NDI’s activities to promote national reconciliation and political reform, including technical assistance to Ivoirian political leaders to draft new legislation.  He is an outstanding analyst of Ivoirian politics.

Charles has also served as legislative program director for NDI in Mauritania.  He has held elected office in Benin, including as a member of the National Assembly and of his region’s General Council.  He played a lead technical role in organizing Benin’s 1991 legislative and presidential elections, and in 2001 was elected President of the National Independent Electoral Commission of Benin.  He has 20 years of experience working to improve public law and good governance throughout West Africa.
