About the Event

“Set Them Free: Recognizing Vladimir Kara-Murza and Prisoners of the Kremlin,” an event dedicated to advocating for those unjustly detained by Russia. This event serves as  a follow-up to the event convened on April 9, advocating for Vladimir Kara-Murza and other Russian political prisoners.

Now reunited with his family following his release in a prisoner exchange, Vladimir has been a powerful voice for those still left behind—Russians, Belarusians, and Ukrainian hostages held in Russia. As Vladimir has emphasized, the struggle is not over. This event is an opportunity to celebrate his freedom, commend the Biden-Harris Administration for securing the release of wrongfully detained individuals, and recommit to advocating for the countless others who remain imprisoned by the Kremlin.

Members of Congress, human rights advocates, and representatives from leading international organizations will highlight the urgency of continued advocacy, share updates on the plight of these political prisoners, and discuss the role of Russian democracy activists in promoting a future of justice and human rights.

Media outlets including Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty and Voice of America will ensure that the message of solidarity and action resonates with the Russian people and beyond.

This event is hosted by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee (SFRC), with participation from the Free Russia Foundation and the National Endowment for Democracy.
