Samlanchith Chanthavong

Senior Director, Core Institute Engagement and Strategy

Samlanchith Chanthavong is the Senior Director, Core Institute Engagement and Strategy at the National Endowment for Democracy.

She previously served as the Director, Global Programs. Since 2006, Sam has built up and continues to oversee the Endowment’s global grants program, which directs support to cross-regional civil society initiatives bringing together democracy advocates to share knowledge, collaborate on key areas of advocacy, and strengthen the implementation of standards to address systemic challenges in a range of areas, including human rights, democratic governance, media development, authoritarian influence, and technology. In previous positions, she managed the Endowment’s Philippines and Thailand portfolios and supported the American Bar Association’s rule of law programming in Asia. She earned a BA in International Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an MA in International Affairs from American University.
