Andrea Gillespie
Senior International Policy Advocate, Human Rights Campaign
Andrea Gillespie (she/her) is the Senior International Policy Advocate with the Human Rights Campaign, the largest LGBTQ+ civil rights organization in the United States. In her position, Andrea focuses on building a U.S. foreign policy that protects and promotes LGBTQ+ rights around the world, serving as the organization’s lead regarding global issues with Congress, the National Security Council, the Department of State, the United States Agency for International Development, and other foreign assistance agencies. Previously, she was the Sexual Health and Rights Policy Advisor with American Jewish World Service, where her work centered on advancing global sexual and reproductive health and rights. Prior to concentrating on LGBTQI+ rights, Andrea worked in refugee resettlement, including her position as Refugee Protection Graduate Fellow at Human Rights First, and she completed her Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship in Turkey. In 2023, Andrea was named as one of Out in National Security and New America’s Out Leaders. Born in Ohio, Andrea holds both her bachelor’s degree and Master of Public Policy from the University of Michigan.
