Laura Gutierrez

Global Worker Rights Coordinator, AFL-CIO

Laura Gutierrez is the Global Worker Rights Coordinator at the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO), a federation of 60 national and international labor unions that represent 12.5 million working people. In her role at the AFL-CIO, Laura advocates for working people around the world through foreign policy, corporate accountability, and climate action. Grounded in community organizing in logistical hubs of California and Illinois, Laura received a Fulbright Scholarship to research the garment industry Bangladesh. Laura continued to live and work in Bangladesh as the South Asia Field Director for the Worker Rights Consortium. Laura oversaw the implementation of the Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh, working with trade unions to improve workers’ access to safety and rights in garment factories. Laura holds a Bachelor of Arts in International and Intercultural Studies from Pitzer College.
